Mezcal Educational Excursions of Oaxaca offers spirits aficionados, novices & industry professionals 1 - 3 day mezcal tours in and beyond Oaxaca's central valleys, of 1 - 3 days. Learn, photograph, sample, buy, discuss. We visit distilleries (palenques) using clay pot production & traditional copper stills (alembics). Inquire regarding my expertise, testimonials, cost, etc. Ask about our group mezcal tour packages where you learn not only about mezcal and pulque, but also about Oaxacan cuisine, craft beer and pairings with food, chocolate, etc. Considering exporting mezcal with your own label, a business plan, etc., or opening a bar or restaurant with a healthy complement of mezcal, or a mezcaleria? We are also consultants in this respect. Or, if you are a photographer or documentary film maker, we have assisted this type of professional on many occasions over the past decade. Mezcal is a full time passion, but a part-time vocation; so inquire early.

I went on this tour with Alvin early in May, in an attempt to learn more about how mezcal is produced, the culture of mezcal, and to get a few bottles to take home in the process. This tour went above and beyond on all...More

Thanks for the kind words and to those before you who have complimented my offerings. A word about the final note: CULTURE is the operative word. I try to stress the culture of rural Oaxacans of (primarily) Zapoteco descent and traditions in the course of...More

What better place to learn about mezcal than in Oaxaca? We wanted to learn about this tasty drink and get off of the beaten path in the Oaxacan villages. Alvin had been recommended to us by several different friends, but he was booked up on...More

Thanks a lot for the kind words, and to those who have previously complimented me for the type of service I provide. Two comments are in order, though: 1) Regarding the mediocre lunch restaurant, if my recollection is correct that place is pretty well the...More

My wife and I toured with Alvin for two days visiting palenques (mezcal distilleries). The main reason we wanted to do the tour, aside from tasting and buying mezcal from the actual producers, was to learn about the history, culture, and way of life associated...More
