Good to orient yourself about local souvenirs, prices quite high
May 2019 • Friends
Good to orient yourself about local souvenirs, prices quite high, we found similar quality at the aresanias market in the South of the town, for more reasonable prices

Temporarily moved to the same street but closer to the center
Dec 2018 • Solo
As a monumental building is being retired, they are located at #310, several blocks closer to the center. They expect the old location to be ready in February or March.

View and watch as artists work
Aug 2018 • Couples
This is a typical courtyard construction that is cooler than the outside temperature wise. The artists can share their experiences if they are available.

Incredible value for Oaxacan crafts
Jan 2018 • Couples
This government run artisan store is a fantastic place to purchase Oaxacan goods. High quality crafts, and very well priced (by U.S. dollar standards). If you're looking to go on a shopping spree, this is the place to go. Better value then some of the shops closer to the Zocalo or Santo Domingo.

Great place to support local artists!
Dec 2017 • Friends
Every time we come to Oaxaca we visit ARIPO. Last week for Christmas, they had a big competition for Nativity scenes and there were some amazing ones, the best being wood carvings of a Nativity scene all on motorcycles. No pictures allowed, though. The rest of ARIPO is composed of rooms around a central courtyard with many things to buy from all the artist communities of Oaxaca, including Teotitlan del Valle, San Martin and San Bartolo. A nice place to come and shop.

Also called Aripo
Oct 2017 • Solo
This is a government institute that works with artisans from the state of Oaxaca. It sponsors concursos (judged competitions) in different types of crafts/themes and provides a market place.
On view and for sale are representative, high quality crafts from Institute members from many regions of the state: textiles-both back strap woven clothing/huipils and more contemporary styles, and table loom wool rugs; pottery; tin work; ceramics; and some jewelry. Prices may be a little higher than some of the crafts cooperatives, but it's good to get an overview and the building itself is interesting. Credit cards are accepted and there is a bathroom for customers.
The store is in an inviting part of town. Walking along this section of Calle Garcia Vigil offers a lovely view of the mountains to the north. Just a short walk beyond Aripo is the area of Los Arquitos, an aqueduct that the Spanish built to bring water into the city from San Felipe del Agua. Opposite is the plaza de la Cruz de Piedra, a staging point for many cultural activities like calendas during holiday seasons. The artist Francisco Toledo has a house in the area.

Good overview of the local art
Oct 2017 • Friends
If you will have a fast overview about the local art which come out of a lot of small villages in the the big valleys of Oaxaca and you don't like to enter the market places of the city or all this villages outside here is your chance to see it all in one place. This is not an institute it is a typical place to sell local art. I feel it is a bit expensive like all this places where tourists come.

Quiet place to look at handicrafts
Apr 2017 • Couples
textiles, pottery, painted wooden animals in a handful of individual shops plus a gift shop. There were few other visitors the day we went there at lunch time.
