An excellent way to spend a morning while in Oaxaca. We were complete beginners on a horse, but Farina is an excellent instructor. The scenery is gorgeous, and the horses are gentle and well-trained. Mary Jane is the charismatic owner who gave us a ride back to Oaxca City.

We feel that it is very important that everyone who mounts a horse should have the basic knowledge to ride safely - a little instruction goes a long way to keeping horses cheerful about doing their job properly. So glad you enjoyed the experience. More

We were 3 riders all together on a Monday in the Oaxaca countryside. The ranch was so very tastefully built nestled in a small village and tucked in with lovely cactus. The horses were beautiful and easy to ride, Mary Jane and her crew prepared everything, gave me an intro to my horse and then we were all t transported... More

The Ruins to Backcountry Ride that you chose is indeed steeped in history with the cobbled camino real, the ex-hacienda de Guadalupe and the archeological site of Dainzu that reaches back to 200 B.C. You rode, and very nicely I'd like to add, young Midnight, one of our pure Arabian horses who tries very hard to please - so glad... More

My husband and I are intermitent riders but like to explore on horseback during holidays. Mary Jane gave us a great day out. The horses were well suited to us in size and temperament and the ride was through interesting countryside. Mary Jane is very knowledgable about the area and horsemanship and guided us both well in each. The half... More

You did the Ruins to Hacienda Ride with trails that very quickly pass by big candelabra cacti and native nopal cacti both flowering now in early spring. As for the meal, Oaxacan cuisine is rated by many as the finest in Mexico, and at Rancho Pitaya we strive to give guests fresh and authentic flavours. Thanks again for riding with... More

Mary-Jane was more then helpfull to us Dutchies. She helped out with arranging a trip to the mountain villages like Latuvi. And... More

Oaxaca has unlimited eco-travel possibilities; just as riding out of my ranch in the valley of Tlacolula is rich in massive old-growth organ cacti, a trip up to the Sierra Juarez guarantees forests of oak trees festooned with bromeliads. I love horse trekking anywhere in this state. The little Criollo mare Mighty and tall pure Arabian Spirit are both well... More

We did the half day ride. I'm experienced and wife is ultra beginner. We both had a blast. Guide was outstanding and horses are well taken care of, docile and beautiful. We saw much of the Oaxaca countryside, learned a lot about the flora and fauna and ride long enough to be sore! We will be back!

We make it a priority to train responsive, well-behaved yet fit horses and match the horse to the rider's abilities. So glad to hear both you and your wife enjoyed the experience. More

Great idea for couples or families to escape the city and enjoy the countryside. Or guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and the horses were great characters. Highly recommend!

Our horses are active partners on the rides. We have fourteen horses and each one is an individual. Horses are highly social beings, and ours respond to their rider, the other horses and even our dogs. They like to be talked to and have a considerable cognitive vocabulary that goes far beyond just Whoa! Thanks for coming out riding. More

Went riding in the countryside outside the city. What a great day. They sent a taxi to pick us up at the hotel that delivered us right to the stables. They greeted us and gave us a brief introduction to their horses and what to expect on the ride. We mounted and off we went . We rode along a... More

We have an intertwining network of beautiful trails that meander through the protected communal lands and dedicated farmlands; this lets us mix up the riding routes and keeps things interesting for both the horses and the riders. We think the horses enjoy their jobs; horses love to explore and going out is what our horses' lives are all about. Do... More

We do most of our day rides in the valley of Tlacolula. The altitude of the valley floor is 1,500 meters but the mountains that ring the valley reach 3,000 meters and THAT makes for beautiful scenery. Thank you for riding with us. More

We opted for the half day ride and we were pleasantly surprised by the horses, who have a wonderfully calm temperament; despite being novices, it felt very easy and intuitive. After a few hours, I got into the swing of things and forgot that I had been so daunted by riding. Great scenery and a change of different landscapes. Wish... More

It is expensive to keep happy and healthy trail ride horses. They wear imported wool pads between their backs and the saddles; these keep their backs cool and free of saddle sores. With this rocky terrain they are shod every six weeks, that is frequent but it keeps their hooves and joints healthy. Remember that unlike a bicycle, a horse... More
