Rufino Tamayo thankfully dedicated himself to collecting historic works of art to protect them from being illegally traded and lost to the Oaxacan people. This museum is a tranquil setting where the works are artfully and thematically arranged on inset glassed in shelves. Definitely visit and enjoy.

Wonderful collection of Pre-Hispanic art works from different areas of Mexico. A nice overview of Mexican art. It was collected by the painter R Tamayo who was influenced by his heritage.

The collection of Rufino Tamayo is well-lit and well-designed to display the differing styles of regional pre-Columbian artifacts, and the stylistic changes through time.

A must see while in Oaxaca. The preservation of the art is so incredible and amazing to see. It takes you to a different world. It is closed on Tuesday (not Monday) There are laminated guides in English by each doorway. Definitely go!!

While small, the museum has plenty to fill 60-90 minutes. Although not much background information is provided on the artifacts, the museum provides a bilingual guide to what you're looking at -- which was helpful.

This museum has to be seen. Not only is the collection amazing, the presentation is a joy in itself.
