The museum is relatively small, and will not exhaust you. Nevertheless, I encourage you to take your time visiting here. The Pre-Columbian exhibits are of excellent quality, and have very good descriptions in both English and Spanish. There are delightful figures of jaguars, coyotes, monkeys, bats, vultures, turkeys, badgers, dogs, and butterflies. My favorite is a hilarious plate for a... More

This is a splending collection, one of the best small museums in all Mexico. All the artefacts were collected by Tamayo for their beauty rather than their historic value. Costs a few pesos to get in and would take up around one hour of your time. Central Oaxaca. Do try and go.

Prehispanic objects chosen for their beauty rather than archeological significance, although they have that too. Just lovely.

We very much enjoyed this interesting collection, look for the booklets which give you the explanations in English in each room. Set in a lovely house and courtyard, not too big for those of us with a short attention span!

This museum was set up by Rufino Tamayo to display his collection of per-Columbian art, and he had quite a collection. The museum is well laid out and his collection is extensive. Fascinating to see along with the other historic venues in Oaxaca.

Well organized exhibits with English translations available at the door for people like me who don't speak or read enough Spanish to be able to read the Spanish descriptions. Well done!

Do take the time to go here. Mr. Tamayo was fortunate to have had the chance to collect some wonderful pieces. How nice to be able to see them.

Showing the prehispanic collection of Rufino Tamayo, the collection is larger than expected, and the pieces are well-displayed. Not as impressive as the museo de las culturas de Oaxaca, though.
