The cooking class with Oscar at Casa Crespi was honestly amazing. The class takes place at Casa Crespi, which is a bright, airy, beautiful location. There were 5 students in my class and we first has cafe or chocolate and discussed what we wanted to learn. I really appreciated that he was open to our suggestions and requests and also... More

I went on sept 19th '16 without any expectations. It just seemed like a fun thing to do with my gf. We were the only students so we got to choose the menu entirely. We prepared a vegan menu using a vast array of local ingredients. The meal was great and abundant. We made mushroom filled green chili, bean soup,... More

One of the best cooking classes I have done. Oscar was a fabulous host and teacher and allowed us to choose what we wanted to cook rather than being told. He took us on an educational tour of the market to buy our ingredients before we started cooking. The small group of 4 made 4 dishes - tamales, a soup,... More

Oscar's cooking school is a wonderful way to spend 5 hours and learn about Oaxacan food. Oscar presented options for tortillas, soup, tamales, moles and desserts, and the five of us came to an amicable agreement to make both squash blossom and plantain tamales, squash blossom soup, tamales en cazuela with chicken, raisins and almonds, peanut mole and mezcal sorbet.... Oscar's cooking class at Casa Crespo is great. The recipes were delicious and the class was informative. We learned a bunch of new techniques that we started using right away (we have already recreated several of the recipes since returning from out trip to Mexico). Oscar is extremely knowledgable and had thorough and interesting answers to all of our questions.... More

the session moved fast-first we (group of 12) were asked to choose a dish for each course, we then got a quick review of how masa was made, then off to the place to get it made from the cooked corn, then the local market, and back to the casa....we all had a chance to make tortillas and to participate... We had an awesome time with chef Oscar, he received us at casa crespo with a light breakfast then took us to the market to buy the different elements we needed to cook it was an awesome experience. Then we had our cooking class which was awesome too. The only reason I don't give all 5 stars it's because I... More

Our one goal for Oaxaca trip was to take a cooking class. Luckily, Casa Crespo offers a class any day of the week, while many others only offer one or two days per week, so we were able to fit it in during our brief visit. Oscar is a great teacher, he showed us how to make many dishes and... More

We've always loved Mexican food, but never thought we could recreate these dishes. Turns out we could! Upon meeting Oscar, we planned our menu which included: tortillas de masa, salsa de jitomate (and 3 other types), Tamales with chicken and squash flowers, Tortilla soup, horchata (a drink with almonds and cantaloupe), Mole negro (the star!) and sweet corn ice cream....
