The trip up is worth the experience by itself. Once there it is a most interesting monument and religious setting. The height allows for excellent views of the countryside below. Your height?.. well a condor flew by and we were looking at him at the same height... and that bird flies high. Worth the trip and the visit.

It is a good morning trip, one hour up through mountain villages and winding roads, filled with locals off to the the mines. A roller coaster ride for sure. Well above GTO, the monument is impressive (its windy and much cooler so bundle up) and there is a small, quirky museum. Learned about about the troubled history of the Church... More

The trip up the mountain can seem somewhat long, slow, and tedious, but once you are in the top, you realize it is totally worth it. Spectacular views!!! Great food at the entrance as well.

I am very partial to this place. I am Catholic and just loved this church. Its history. Its architecture. Its grounds. The interior just so peaceful. Remarkable all-around landscape of surrounding cities.

Before attempting your assent to the top, make sure your car has good breaks and that your radiator works and that it has plenty of anti-freeze in it to prevent over heating. It will take about an hour to reach the top, depending on that day's traffic. On the way up (or down) don't be alarmed if you see locals... More
