Relatives brought a group of about 10 last week to visit. About 40 min or so outside Guadalajara. Quiet little town, with shops. Churchs, and many vendors. Bought ice cream on lake shore and watched the "flyers" perform their pole dance as they hang upside down and slowly circle the pole as they come down. Artistic and beautiful to watch... More

The Monte Coxala is a unique looking restaurant located in the Chapala area Raquette club. There's a guard at gate but just tell him you're going to restaurant. Truly delicious margaritas and authentic, of course, Mexican food. Worth the drive out of Guadalajara, about 1 hour from centro. The drive goes past all the berry farms.

This one of the largest, if not the largest, lakes in Mexico. The area surrounding it is beautiful. There are numerous restaurants located near the lake and many activities for family enjoyment.

We took a day trip to Lake Chapala and the surrounding area via a private car from Guadalajara. As you approach the Lake the area is surrounded by gated communities and condo developments, as you get closer there are roadside vendors. The. Lake is large and the banks have restaurants and places to walk and relax. We were near the... More

What a lovely surprise to come over the mountains and find Lake Chapala and Ajijic!!! A charming community with a fabulous malecon along the lake. Rides and tiendas, a beautiful walkway and many local restaurants with a local flavour. We will definitely return when we can stay longer. AND OH!!! The town was all dressed up for Christmas!!! Gorgeous!!!

Being the biggest lake in Mexico you must see? Weather the expat tourist area of ajijic or the old Spanish island prison of the coast of mezacal this lakes highly recommended. The tourism areas aren't the best with higher price stays. Chapala, jotepic, mezcal, octlan are the true gems of the lake.only because of culture and no over growth of houses... More
