When in Puerto Vallarta, you have to spend some time on the Malecon. Lots to take in with the interesting statues, sand sculptures (when the ocean has not washed them away) as well as many shops, music and places to eat or stop for a drink all along the board walk area

A trip to PV is not complete without a stroll along the Malecon! Caballito and many other beautiful statues line the beach. There are many options for dining along the beach. Several option for a place to sit under an umbrella and sip on something to cool you off. Caballito is a great landmark to use as a "meet up"... More

The boy on the seahorse is the symbol of Puerto Vallarta. This statue and all the statues along the Malecon are well done and add an artistic atmosphere to the area. Clearly a MUST.

Everything just runs together. The statues are well done, some you can even climb upon. Everyone is a photo opportunity. Have water, sunblock, glasses, hat and just enjoy. The seahorse is great meeting place if you get lost or group wants to do other things.

We had a ring repaired and ate a tremendous Italian lunch on the Malecon while we waited. It was a successful trip.

This is the story how Puerto Vallarta ended up having two seahorse statues along the Malecon. The Malecon has has two seahorse (caballito) sculptures titled "The Boy on the Seahorse" (El Niño sobre el Caballo de Mar.) The first one was commissioned in1960. The artist Rafael Zamarripa Castañeda was only 18 years old when he had won the Mexican National... More
