For our first visit to PV we decided to stay in Zona Romantica based on multiple reviews from trip advisor, etc. Good call. All the best restaurants and bars/clubs, the malecon, Los Muertos Beach and Old Vallarta, all walkable. The only downside is the lack of a LARGE grocery store like Mega or Costco or Walmart. Still, if you're going... More

The romantic zone gives you a true picture of Mexico. The copperstone streets and numerous street vendors are what Mexico is all about.

From the restaurants to the shopping, this is the place to be! We enjoyed the "old town" feel with a good mix of "modern" buildings. We did some great shopping here, as well as found some good rooftop spots for 2 for 1 happy hours! The street food was safe and excellent rotisserie chicken was the best! You can also... More

In my opinion this is the only part of PV to stay. I actually want to deter people from coming here so it doesn't get too busy, but honestly it is so friendly, clean, has great restaurants and shopping, and terrific access to the beach. It is within walking distance to everything you need.

Walking through the Romantic zone is a truly wonderful feeling...not the resort openness but rather the favor of a old culture, comfortable and inviting to explore.

Los Muertos beach is here. A lot of people hanging out at the beach getting tans, while having their drinks delivered to them. Lots of restaurants facing the beach. You can parasail just by walking up to where the parachute is and asking for it: 850 pesos. I did it an it's a blast! You can also swim, but the... More

On a warm evening it's beautiful just to walk around this area and listen and watch all that is going on.

Great people watching, galleries, restaurants, ice cream parlor, live shows and so much more. Rent a condo in old town and never need to take a cab except to/from the airport.

I would not use the word "romantic" describe this area. Before coming to PV I was hoping this area was going to be San Miguel by the sea, Colonial, seemingly trapped in time. There is really nothing old or frankly that charming about it. Most of it seems to have been built in the 60's with lots of modern redevelopment... More

Loved the energy, slightly shocked by the scant clothing worn by men. Heavy foot traffic, bar scene & tourist shopping. This is where the cabaret shows happen.
