I would highly recommend taking a trip to the Plaza Machado. It is a fantastic change from the Gringo areas in the Golden Zone. Great restaurants everywhere. Go after dark.

Surrounded by eating places that feature musical groups, it provides for a nice evening out . Every night you can see locals walking around the plaza, lots of young people interacting with their peers , while chaperones sit on the benches around

Great center square. You find music, crafts, restaurants, and the theatre. Prices of the restaurants very. You can also find many restaurants a block or two from the square.

Beautiful space to spend an evening, either dining out or having a beverage at one of the restaurants. Music and entertainment, plus kiosks selling local gift wear.

A very quaint and typical Mexican town Plaza. Very well kept plaza lined with sidewalk cafes and in the evening small shopkeepers set up with artisan things to sell. Steps away from a beautiful little live theatre house. The centre of the plaza has a...More

Great experience at this place. Lucky us the day we visited there was a local band playing. Families enjoying and dancing. We ate at Pedro y Lola. Love the food and the service. So recommended to go on a weekend day.

Saw this on a city tour. No one around much. Lovely older buildings and several restaurants located here. Just no activity while we were visiting. I am sure on the weekends it is hopping.

Every weekend there is a variety of live music on the square. There are kiosks set up as well with souvenirs to buy. My only complaint is about the restaurant proprietors who try to entice you to come to their restaurant. You just can't walk...More

No matter which restaurant you choose in this area, this plaza has the best chefs in town. My favorite is Gaia which borders the lovely square. Other bistros include Pedro & Lola's; Casa 46 is on the 2nd story above Gaia. Topolo will open again...More

Nothing interesting, but the restaurant Casa 46 has good service and food. The food there was much better than at the Emerald Bay resort.

The Plaza Machado is in Centro Historico and is about a 30 minutes north along the coastal road, the Malecon. A nice taxi or pulmonea ride - but to far to walk.

There are several shops, restaurants and a city center (Plaza Machado) near the ship dock; however, the beach is too far to walk to. If you want to go to the beach or boardwalk (malecon), you can take a pulmonia. Pulmonias... More
