Plaza Machado is a lovely place to enjoy a meal and people watch. Saturday evening lots of brides being photographed. Clean and safe place to relax on a bench while enjoying a gelato. Sometimes they have vendors selling crafts and jewelry.

Our hosts suggested that we visit Plaza Machado, and we’re so grateful that we did! It was a beautiful place to rest and people watch and offered many eateries in the evening.

It is a beautiful plaza surrounded by quaint and delicious restaurants. We sat on a shady patio & ate a great lunch while listening to an excellent mellow tenor & watching passing couples and groups. Then toured the adjacent opera house.

spent the afternoon there, was quiet and tranquil. We were also there on Saturday night and happened to be crowning the princess for Carnival. Great atmosphere, beautiful people. Very traditional, music and laughter was in the air.

Charming place to visit during the day or evening when all the restaurants are buzzing. During the day it's more sedate. Visit the Opera house while you,re there

About 2 US dollars..one could walk or take city bus for about 50 cents in US currency. Depends on exchange rate.

The Plaza Machado is in Centro Historico and is about a 30 minutes north along the coastal road, the Malecon. A nice taxi or pulmonea ride - but to far to walk.

There are several shops, restaurants and a city center (Plaza Machado) near the ship dock; however, the beach is too far to walk to. If you want to go to the beach or boardwalk (malecon), you can take a pulmonia. Pulmonias... More
