It is a ways to get here but the drive is so pretty, it feels like a movie set. The mission is a historical treat as well as the incredibly large and twisted 300 year old olive tree. It is interesting to see how they...More

Interesting Mission with great construction. The paintings in the city hall next door are worthwhile, too.

We were given an interesting, informative, a gracious tour of the Mission by one of the locals. He was very helpful and this tour was truly an amazing treat!

A very winding road to San Javier, glad our guide Miguel Meza was also our driver. Miguel is very knowledgeable and informative. This Mission still stands despite going through an earthquake. I loved the gnarled old olive tree there.

To start, it's much closer than expected, it's only 20 miles from Loreto. The road is very good all the way there minus a couple small chunks of road missing that are well marked. There are a bit of small rock slides evident along the...More

Well worth the hour long drive here. Very beautiful. It is interesting how you will be driving in a desert mountain and then you come across the small oasis. We saw several.

This is a must see if you are in the Loreto area. Beautiful place and a very pretty drive into the mountains.

It's a bit further than you would think - winding roads, but an oasis in the mountains. Have a cold beer/drink and take pics on the way back. Stop at Del Borracho Saloon for a bowl of chile just before the main highway

Nice day trip. Road was paved and well maintained with very little traffic. Gives a good sense of the history of the area and the blood, sweat and tears that went along with it.

Loreto is the starting point for a visit to San Javier. Hotels and other services are available in Loreto but I would not count on anything but a small restaurant in San Javier. A good B&B in Loreto might be the La Damiana... More

I never saw anyone drunk there, only reverent pilgrims visiting truly religious ancient site. Like an oasis in the midst of no-where. There are no restrooms on way there as you are traveling on secondary road thru wilderness!
