Paddling South began running kayak tours in the early '80s. It is known as one of Loreto, Baja's oldest travel companies. It was started by Trudi Angell and has recently been acquired by Sea Trek, one of the most respected and long-time kayaking companies in Baja. Paddling South provides a wonderful suite of self-supported kayak trips which complements Sea Trek's offering of skiff (boat) supported trips. Together, the two companies provide a complete range of experiences suited for any kind of adventure traveller.

El Serpiente cave painting mule trip: great scenery, demanding trip

I did the El Serpiente trip (7 nights) in March 2017, after doing a 4-night cave paintings trip in 2016. This trip is much more demanding, but is much more scenic. We camped at a rancho at the trail head the first night (after going to see a painting site that afternoon), so 6 nights on the trail. We rode... More

Paddling South was one of the most memorable and exciting trips my students have ever been on! Jorge and Antonio are outstanding guides that really made the trip! Their local knowledge of geology, biology, culture, and conversational Spanish, plus their willingness to answer questions, created an enriching atmosphere for the entire course. Jorge went above and beyond to help build... More

Six of us from Reno, NV, booked a mule trip with Trudi after meeting her two years ago at the Cowboy Poetry Festival at Elko, NV. After driving down to Loreto we started the mule trip on 1APR and finished on the 16th. Never knew that I'd fall in love with a mule. What fantastic beasts. Anyhow, the riding was... More

This four day kayaking trip far exceeded expectations. Knowledgable, friendly guide with great paddling skills took us to many pristine spots, made us feel totally safe, and even made us yummy meals. We camped on empty beaches, slept with the sunset and sunrise, and laughed. The kicker - being woken up by the sound of humpbacks whales and see a... More

Still feeling the glow of a recent kayak trip to the islands and down the coast from Loreto. I used to guide trips there and felt this was a very smooth and wonderful adventure! Nadia and Stephanie were incredibly professional as well as being lovely charming warm relatable individuals. Everything was well organized, food was outstanding, I ate a LOT!... More

I've wanted to see these cave paintings for a long time and finally located Saddling South, a tour company that spends more than a day or two in the canyons. I went with 2 friends on the 5-day tour (4 nights camping). Pre-trip communication was less than desirable, leading to a last-minute notice that we were going into the canyon... More

Two friends and I did the 5 day (4 night) rock art pack trip with 5 other guests to the painted "caves" (they are actually overhangs). It was a great experience but much harder than my two friends expected (we are in our late 60s to mid 70s, do substantial hiking). The organization at times was not optimal. The paintings... More

Hey nature and adventure lovers. If you are in Baja... you must go for a kayak paddle with Paddling South. And activity enthusiasts will enjoy peddling (bicycling) through Baja's environs. English-speaking guides are so knowledgable, customer-driven and fun. And, for something different, contact SADDLING SOUTH and try a mule ride into the La Giganta Mountains. Different rides to choose from... More

Paddling South is one of about three specialty kayak based tour companies in Loreto, and have just merged with Steve Hayward’s Sea Trek. They can in combination also offer biking tours, mule rides, hikes. This is my only experience with such a guided kayak tour. I had a good time, and I anguish a bit over a mere "above average"...
