Super amazing day out!
Aug 2019 • Family
You should really visit this place if you have children. We had a great day (with a nice break in between) enjoying the entertaining actors who work so hard to teach about life at the time. Great, and funny, présentation of the information--we loved the Salle des Merveilles 'school' bit and learned loads too. Excellent theatre pieces with plenty of humour, dance, song, acrobatics and theatrics. It was fab how the kids (and us) could get involved. Well worth the money, we'll be talking about it in Wales for ages!

We love to read that kind of message, thank you ! And it's reassuring for us, because we try our best to make it reachable for the english speakers and it's not always easy ... So we're glad you enjoyed the day so much ! Have a good summer, and see you very soon ;)

Weird experience
Aug 2019 • Family
I'm not sure what to say about this. We were hoping to visit the chateau, and weren't expecting the living museum component. The team are very enthusiastic and friendly, with interesting activities. However, unless you speak French it's not so easy to follow. We found it a bit weird and surreal and rather expensive.

We are very sorry to read this ... We are trying to make it enjoyable for people who don't speak french, by offering english shows too. The english speaking public will start with the Hall of Wonders (with english speaking people only), then the Weaponery Room (still in english), to finish in the Appartments with a music and danse time. The staff is also happy to answer to every questions, including in english.

For children and quite expensive
Aug 2018 • Couples
It’s a recreation of mediaeval life, events, mock battles. It is not a castle to look around, with exhibits etc. Young children will like it but it’s not for adults really. It’s quite expensive for what it is and although the individual performers seem well-meaning, the overall effect is amateur, even shoddy. The toilets are dreadful. The cafe is basic in the extreme and very small. Not a good use of time or money we thought.

Hello, We are sad to hear that you didn't enjoy your visit. The prices can't be lower (max. 11€ for a whole day of shows..., free for children under 5 and 6€ between 5 and 14...) regarding to the 9 comedians and the other employees keeping this place as clean and safe as they can. We chose to use dry toilets for history and ecology, and we feel sorry it doesn't suits you...

Kids will love this
Jul 2018 • Couples
The castle itself is partly accessible for visitors but within the parts which are accessible the authors really make it a learning and fun full afternoon.

Summarized it’s a fun activity with highly passionate people when wondering aren’t the lovely city of Largentiere.

Side note: many shows are spoken in French so sometimes a little hard to follow for those how are foreigners and on a holiday trip to this beautiful part of France.

Beautiful acting, but understanding French makes it really worthwhile
Jul 2017 • Family
Although the brochures mention that English is spoken, the entire performance is in French (obviously). So if you do not understand French very well, it's difficult to understand what the actors are trying to tell.
Nevertheless, the acting is done really nice. There are several demonstrations in stone carving and there was a blacksmith working on some arrowpoints.
We left after about an hour because we didn't understand enough to keep attending.

Another of the many gems in the Ardeche
Jun 2017 • Business
Not just the castle but the whole town wich made it's fortune (in the old days) on mining the lea/silver ore nearby is a gem worthwhile filandering trough for a couple of hours. Like all places in the Ardeche nowadays it's economy runs mostly on tourism and they will go the distance to attract toursits with festivals, manifestations, the lot during the summer to attract the tourist dollar. On top of all their effort it is mostly the historic buildings and the great natural setting of the Ardeche that makes this a great stop.

Super fun
Jul 2016 • Family
I visited here with my 4 year old. He loved it. There were people dressed up and the whole day was enthralling. Bravo.
Much of the talking was done in French but anglophones were welcome too.
This is a true treasure for young (4) kids to experience.
