A very interesting castle inside and out.
Oct 2017 • Friends
We had visited the outside of this castle before, but this time we were able to go inside. It has a commanding view of perhaps 50 kilometres in any direction. The views are truly spectacular. The inside is interesting but somewhat smaller than I had imagined after walking around the structure. It was still interesting, and the views from the tower are worth the price of admission.

Beautiful view of the countryside of Aracena - worth the trip!

If you are into the countryside scene, you are in for a treat. Great place to visit, the tickets were inexpensive and the inside of the castle was worth the visit. Lots of history to see and hear about, you can just envision the time/era of the place.

Great view!

The castle was built in the XIIIth c. and meant to warn of a Portuguese incursion. Inside, you'll can appreciate suits of armour. The castle offers a beautiful view over the Sierra de Aracena and the Natural Park of Picos de Aroche.
The castle is a private property. It is open to public during the winter season from 11am-2pm and later 4-6pm. Closed on Mondays. Price for entry is Eur2.

Up he Hill!!
Jul 2016 • Friends
March to the top of this beautiful hill to explore the interesting counsel about. It is a well preserved example of architecture from the 1300s. We really enjoyed exploring and walking around in taking in the breathtaking views from the top of the castle walls. Make sure to jump up on my way to this cute little town and have lunch at the plaza.

Interesting and very nice view over the village
Apr 2016 • Couples
If you have time and are staying in the area, then a visit to Cortegna and its main attraction, the castle, is well worthwhile. If coming from Aracena, combine it with a visit to Almonaster Real and the very attractive Alajara. The visit to the castle is nothing stunning and it is fairly interesting and the views are very nice.

We went with familt to visit and when we got there, the castle was closed. We arrived too early. However, in spite of that, it was still a very nice place to visit and I want to go back again when it is open.

Visit Cortegana.

The Castle of Cortegana.
This medieval castle is located on top of a Hill just on the outside of the village.
You can reach it by car and there is space to leave the car during your visit.
The castle himself seems to be well conserved and the entrance costs 2€ pro person, and it seems to have still furniture on the inside, it was closed when we arrived to visit it, but anyhow it was worth the stop over, because you have also a nice view over the village from the location of the castle.
And when there, do not forget to visit also the “Ermita da Nuestre Señora de la Piedad” just in front of the Castle.

Easy to find. Parking good. Can walk around outside of castle for free. Views all way round over town and countryside. For a very small fee of 2 euros per adult you can look inside.Well worth it. Most of the castle you can walk around and climb higher. It is only small but brick work /arches/inside rooms all preserved.

Fascinating castle with superb views over the Sierras

Cortegana castle is definitely worth a detour if you are exploring the Heuva region. The castle is perched high on a hill overlooking the village, and has superb views over the surrounding countryside. You don't have to be interested in history or architecture to be able to appreciate this little gem.

The castle is well preserved, and a handy printed guide in English explained the history of the building and the purpose of each rooms. The underground cistern was fun to see and visit.

The entrance was a little hidden, and I suggest you walk around the whole outside of the castle (rather than just assume one locked door indicates the castle is closed).

The castle was very cheap to visit, only 2 Euros per person. I think an hour at most for a visit.

There was no toilet inside (nor in the nearby car park), but we discovered a few bushes which provided shelter and needed watering!

Amazing Castle and amazing view!
Dec 2013
Amazing place to visit! On the top of the mountain where u can see and feel the village very close! Special to see in the morning or during the sunset! Good place to take pictures and enjoy the "Real Spain". This Castle is the best!!!! In summer time there is a big Medieval Party! First week in august! Everyone is Welcome!

Friendly people in this place! You are always very welcome to enjoy their food and their places. Go by walk away from the village and get inside the forest as well enjoying the fresh air really away from the big cities.

Don't forget to eat the best pork meat of Spain!!! Is here!
