Fort Louis in Marigot survived the 1808 British attack but its walls are but shells of its former glory. It needs restoration. It is rich in history and offers a panoramic view of the Caribbean Sea and of Marigot.

An easy walk from town and you have a great view of the Marina and town. It is a wonderful place to go and watch the sun set. Then wander down thru the market area and along the shops in town.

From the center of Marigot, you can be at Fort Louis in less than 10 minutes. We recommend parking in town and walking up to the fort. Parking near the fort looked very challenging due to some busy offices that are nearby. There is a steep, but short walk to the fort, with steps all the way. For a short... More

Climbing the 96 (yes, I counted every one!) steps to the top of this historic (1692 Spanish-constructed, 1789 French-completed) Fort will give you not only a sense of European colonial expansion and conflicts in the New World but, almost as an afterthought, a superb lookout over the French capital of Marigot. To me it was a reasonably stress-free climb, but... More

One of the highlights of visiting Marigot was climbing up the path to Fort Lewis. There are only a few walls remaining and it is nowhere as impressive as Fort George on St Kitts, but it does provide a little history of the island and great views of Marigot and the surrounding bay. The climb is not steep or dangerous,... More

It's an interesting walk just to find the path behind the Catholic Church to get up the hill to the Fort. Once you climb up the stone stairs to the summit, the views of the sea are spectacular. The Fort itself is not much to see but there are plaques around to fill in the history of the site.

Yet again I have been visiting a Fort, I don't really walk up to the top because of the history but because of the good view you will get when you reach the top! And yet again you will get an amazing view over Marigot Bay all over to Simpson Bay!!

The old fort is mostly gone, with just a few reconstructed walls and cannons, but, the view!! The view is definitely worth the hike and the signage to give you some of the history is also nicely done.
