Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First, this is a great meeting spot, taxi drop off and pick up spot, and if your group gets split up meet here spot. It’s right in the middle of the shopping area and you can’t miss it. It’s also a great spot for memorable pictures. There is often police guarding the front but they are friendly and you can take a picture with them. They are also good people to ask directions to. The whole downtown is safe and add this your must do list.

This was one of our stops on your tour. It is in walking distance from downtown and cruise port. It was original built in 1793 and was the home of the town’s founder Dutch Navy Captain John Philips. It has had many renovations. It was once a jail, fire station, post office and now the court house. My favourite part is the pineapple on the top. Which symbolize hospitality.

Along with the nearby Saint Martin de Tours Church, this is the only notable edifice worth visiting from the historic point of view.
Originally, it was John Philips home - Scottish captain of Dutch Navy after whom town gained its name. It used to be a fire station and jail, today's a museum which was closed due to renovations.

We ordered a taxi and the driver informed us that she'll pick us up near Court House. So, i happened to see the building. Its an interesting old architecture in a bustling street. Didn't go inside.

One of the most emblematic, important sites on the island, this cupola-topped building is in the town’s core, on Front Street. Built in 1793, the shingled structure was the home of the town’s founder and namesake, Captain John Philips, a Scottish captain in the Dutch navy. Despite many renovations, his former residence has been a fire station, a post office and a jail. At the top is a wooden pineapple—the symbol for hospitality (also seen in Charleston). Inside the tower’s belfry are still 25 bells.

We stumbled upon the courthouse as we were window shopping. The building was not open so we were only able to see it from the outside.

Historical old colonial courthouse apparently still in regular use and right in the centre of the old town. Sited among the bustling shops on Front Street, this wooden building is an architectural delight.

The heritage and culture preserved here is great to see. The old is mixed in with the new which makes for an interesting walk.

When you are on Frontstreet in Philipsburg, St-Maarten, this is the place where all taxis want to pick you up: but stop and look around you will see the old Courthouse.

Water Taxi a good way to get from Pier to Beach and Front street in Philipsburg .Coach tour of Island incl boat tour of the Lagoon organised by Royal Caribbean was expensive . It did give one some indication of the destruction caused by the Hurricane two years ago with the time available in the Dutch capitol town too short .Weather on the day very mixed heavy showers
