No longer flying the tricolor, the old courthouse is used for various purposed, including classes. A statue of Victor Schoelcher stands outside in the plaza in front of the building. Across the street is the new, modern courthouse.

We were wandering around the township of Fort-de-France, having arrived in the morning on a cruise ship. Our cruise-liner was due to depart in the afternoon, along with all the other day-trippers. I don't know what it is used for now, I guess I have to find a tour guide to help me learn more about the town, but it is a beautiful old building to walk through.

This courthouse is more than a century year old and is close to other administrative buildings such as the Town Hall , library and some banks dating from the same area . The architecture is neo-colonial ( I was told ) and the landscaping is interesting ! The whole area takes a bit more than one hour of sightseeing by... More
