Hwy 997 is profiled because it starts at the Ferry Port and ends to the South at approximately Sun Bay. It also is the road you need to use to get to the beaches on the East side of the Island in the US Wildlife Refuge. The Island is only 4 miles North-to-South so you wont be on this road... More

The island is heavily populated by wild horses, which roam, eat and fornicate in the road. Around EVERY corner you will find a horse or a 5ft Iguana waiting to cost you the additional insurance you thought you didnt need!

This is one of the main roads on the island, and you'd probably take it going from Isabel Segunda to Esperanza, which are the 2 main towns on the island. Like most of the roads there, it's narrow and a little hard to see in some spots. Local drivers will take it a lot faster than you probably should. But... More

A main road for sightseeing snd getting anywhere, it is in fairly good condition and scenic, but they have thousands of wandering free horses and supposedly lose 200 or more a year on the highways. So watch out, even if you are going by slow they may suddenly decide to bolt right in front of you and your vehicle is... More

This was one thing I was looking for to was seeing the horses on this little island. I expected that the would be in a contain area on the island such as a reserve.. NOOO, they are everywhere; streets, yards, parking lots, it was very cool. Even saw a couple of you guys galloping down a busy street in traffic... More

Most of the horses are free roaming and a few are branded and groomed. They are great lawn mowers!!!!

Horses galore! Tons of horses roaming, grazing, and chasing each other in herds along this highway. Takes about 15-18 minutes to drive from Isabel Segunda to Esparanza along this highway.

Stop at Sun Bay to swim, see all the horses or just stare at the ocean. Please pick up your litter, this is the reason for the 4 star. We have been traveling to Vieques for almost 10 years and the last time we went back we were a little sad. This is a great little hidden treasure among all... More

I fill like a fool rating this but it's here....this is the road you will spend most of your time in Vieques on. It connects Isabel Segunda to Esperanza and also brings you to all beaches in the south coast. watch out for horses roaming free on this road, particularly at nite.
