We intended to visit El Morro while staying in Old San Juan, but did not expect to spend 3 hours there because we were so impressed with the Fort. It is a very impressive structure and historically important to the people of Puerto Rico. If...More

The old fort is wonderful to tour, from top to bottom. Bring comfortable walking shoes because the fort is quite large. Fantastic views of PR all around, from the town to the oceans. Don't forget your sunscreen, hats and water.

I highly recommend visiting the forts of Old San Juan. It is a very cheap excursion ($10), you get a 24-hour pass, and you learn a lot about the history of the island. Plus, you can take amazing landscape shots of the city from it!

Great views with some history. My family loved taking it all in. It was nice just to sit and feel the breeze while watching all the kites and watching my kids enjoy the hills. We loved taking a step back in time and walking through...More

It's like exploring a medieval fort or castle, it's huge. You better have plenty of space on your SD card or your phone for these views and the fort has been expertly maintained. The Taxis at the cruise port offer several great tours.

Impressive defense structure with a five century history. Offers great views, it’s strategic importance in history is well explained. As a European I could link it with 16th century european history, made it more interesting. Tip: avoid weekends and go at opening time; avoid the...More

Great views, unique look at the island and lots of history! The fort itself is large - there are two other ones on in San Juan, but this one is about 2 mile walk uphill from the port (we were on a cruise ship). It...More

Yes, you can get down to the beach, but locals warn tourists not to go into the La Per Perla area of the beach - it is half way between the two forts that span the cost line. There really is no actual beach - just rocks and... More
