More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well.

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

A good selection of Puerto Rican art in a beautiful setting, specially when they have special exhibitions.

This museum located in the Santurce neighborhood of San Juan is a wonderful place to spend a morning. It is not a very big museum but the collection is outstanding and the grounds are lovely. We walked from the Caribe Hilton (in Puerta de Tierra) to the museum -- a long walk but well worth it because we got to... More

I'll be honest, this museum wasn't on my to-do list for Puerto Rico. But it was raining buckets with no sign of letting up, so we weren't going to the beach or the rain forest or walking around Old San Juan, so we hopped in a cab and spent a few hours here. My companion isn't a fan of contemporary... More

With our limited time, we were able to get some San Juan culture as well as lunch in between checking out of our hotel and checking in at the airport...from 11 to 2....perfect timing. Nice museum and restaurant.

Located within walking distance of the Condado coast, the Museum has a good collection of old and new Puerto Rican art, including works by José Campeche and 60s poster art wich i find very unique, the gardens are also beautiful, across the street there are several restaurants – french, italian, hindu – in case you're hungry, went there on sunday!

I liked the paintings although it is not a very large museum. Good show case of local culture. Worth an hour or so. Not a place to spend the day.

We came across this by accident and just wandered in. Entrance is free. The exhibition space is quite lovely, well organised. We saw two interesting exhibitions and the third was unfortunately closed. We were able to learn quite a bit about the exhibits that we did see from attendants.

First of all, let me say that the price of admission is VERY low! For less than $7.00, this museum is a GEM! At 3 times (or more) the cost, I would still say this. My boyfriend and I visited one morning and arrived just as they were opening (the day after Thanksgiving). It was rather empty, which was nice... More

A beautiful open air museum with a wonderful collection of visual arts including oils, videos, etc. Don't miss the small Botanical Gardens behind the museum...audio tour is worth the low cost.

Every time I visit San Juan, I visit the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico. This time, I joined the museum. The art is stimulating and inspiring. The outdoor garden is calming, peaceful and simply nice to walk through. The location of museum is good.
