I can finally check this off my bucket list. We started about 8:30am and finished around 11:00. The last 15 minutes were a very steep climb. Winds at the top were close to 80km/hour. Our hair was soaked from the humidity. It was a blast. Once again - we were lead by the excellent guide and park warden - Patrice... More

We arrived later than we should have, due to the fact that the drive down from Pointe Noire took longer than expected, though a lovely ride! We luckily found parking fairly close to the trail head and started up the interesting, but slippery cobblestone pathway . You come out to a plateau and from there you have several trails to... We had an enjoyable hike up. It was not particularly strenuous although there were times when care was needed due to slippery steep rocks. It took us the prescribed 1.5 hrs each way but we took our time. Rain came extremely heavily (we got soaked even with full rain gear) and at the very top, winds were extremely powerful (don't... My boyfriend and I recently hiked La Soufriere. It took a little less than 4hrs up tot he summit and back. VERY strong wind and rain towards the top so be prepared. Proper shoes are a must, and always bring a wind/rainproof jacket just in case. Hiking shoes aren't necessary (can get away with trainers) but recommended.

We did not arrive at 7:15 like many other disciplined tourists. We slept in. In fact, we arrived around 12:30 and surprisingly found parking near the start of the trail. Once we started the hike however, we realized that the rain will not stop any time soon and the visibility is very low. I have to say, that your absolute... More

We arrived by 7:15, based on advice from tourist office, and the top parking lot was already full (this was a Friday in late January). We had no problem parking a bit below it, in a space along the road. If we had arrived after 8am it would have been quite iffy to get parking anywhere close to the trailhead.... More

If you get to the trailhead by 7 you can get parking right next to it. If you get there after 8, you zill have to park further down the hill, maybe a lot further. Plan 4.5 hours round trip. Take water. There are a number of trails you can take besides the one to the top of the volcano.... More

First the drive to get there - if staying on the West Coast is a bit of work. We were staying south of Deshaise and it took more than 1.5 hours to get there. We did hit some traffic near Baillif, before getting into Basse-Terrre. The signs to La Soufriere are well marked at D26. Be sure to stay on... More

This is the fourth time we have climbed this mountain. Each time we see something new. You definitely need hiking shoes. The parking is a little crazy and going up to the parking can be a little scary. People coming down tend to go faster than one would guess so keep an eye out for the cars leaving the mountain... A beautiful hike. Things to know: Check the weather before you leave -- try to go on a sunny day Leave early Wear sunscreen Wear a pair of sturdy walking/hiking shoes. It can be slippery in spots Bring water. At least 1 litre Bring a camera Bring food if you plan on walking slow. Expect to take approx 2.5-3.5 hours... More
