- Srimanth RudrarajuGreater London, United Kingdom332 contributionsPeaceful and good views - Skip if you are short on timeThere’s nothing much near the lake, but the scenery and view of the estate around the lake is awesome. Definitely not a must visit but a good visit if you like nature and have time. You won't spend more than 15 mins soaking up the view and then on your way to the next stop. We spotted a Mona monkey at the entrance which is actually a protected species. Our tour guide showed the differences in the damage done by the hurricane Ivan. The Vegetation colour and density was clearly visible. We also took a piece of bread and fed the fish. There are tons of fish that will come to you. If you hold the bread in the water, you can feel all the fish biting your fingers. It was a fun experience. But, if you are short on time, this is really not on the top of your list. Entrance fee is about $2 and there's a small museum and clean toilets. You then drive off to the lake once you purchase tickets.Visited December 2022Written 29 December 2022
- GrahamP113Witham, United Kingdom1,729 contributionsPart or tourReally fascinating lake created by volcanic activity in the past. Very quiet and calm and with no fishing allowed the lake was full of exotic fish. If you are lucky and carry a banana or two you might also encounter the mone monkeysVisited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 January 2023
- menorsWindsor and Maidenhead, United Kingdom282 contributionsUp in the hills,Interesting drive mainly up steepish hills from St George and be prepared for bendy roads, signposting of limited supply, however you shouldn’t get too lost. Visitor Centre at Grand Etang worth a short visit, as is the walk up to the lookout towards the coast (about 10 minutes up/ down semi muddy path. Worth a short walk down to the Lake, plenty of fish swimming around. Recommend this for a short visit.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 January 2023
- Sarahjn991 contributionExtraordinary views, jungle hiking and wildlifeCatch a bus (number 6 or number 2) from St George’s for EC$10 round trip, chat to local residents and arrive at the most beautiful serene volcanic lake, full of koi carp! The park is EC$2 to go inside hundreds of acres of jungle. We hiked up to the right (steep but do-able) to the top lip of the crater and could see over the entire island to the sea and beyond. We then headed back to the visitor centre, headed up to the viewing deck (5-10 mins) and could see across lush tropical forests to the coast on the other side.l of the island. We saw several mongoose, a troop of Mola monkeys and lots of birds and incredible plants, flowers and trees. It’s hard to describe the vast, silence of the jungle and the tranquility of the lake - this volcano is how the island was formed. If you think of this as a koi pond and a waste of time then you should probably stay on the cruise ship and head back to the buffet!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 March 2023
- MizMNew York City, New York840 contributionsEhhh….I’m not sure if I missed something with Grand Etang Lake. We drove up, jumped out, had a look, saw some fish being fed by other visitors and that was it. It was a lake. We were visiting waterfalls that were in the area so it was a minor detour. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit it unless already in the area.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 April 2023
- roadsideshopKirkwall, United Kingdom1,621 contributionsVery pretty lakeWent with the hope of seeing the mona monkeys but luck was not with us we heard one but saw none. However the lake was very pretty and we say the goldfish and koi carp which where very cool. There are lots of hiking trails to take through the jungle but they are very steep. Its a lovely place to have a sit and maybe a picnic.Visited June 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 25 June 2023

It was beautiful and peaceful. Was thankful for finding a cool area in the island. Not into touching and imprinting wildlife but the monkeys were quite amusing.

The lake is a pond with some koi in it. If there happens to be a helper there who can coax a monkey down from a tree, then it's worthwhile. Otherwise, not really worth a stop.

The lake was beautiful. Our tour guide dropped fish food into the lake and all kinds of fish came to the surface. The path up to the lookout was well maintained. The Mona monkeys were in the trees

On a tour from a cruise ship we went way up the mountains and up there we could see the beautiful Grand Etang Lake.

Many people get there look at the lake and monkey and leave. We did the hike around the lake. It took about an hour. It was muddy but pleasant and very interesting to see all the different plants.

Yes, there is a kiosk to pay. Just up on the left is the lake, best viewed from the visitor centre.
