About
The Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve is a private protected area owned and operated by the Grupo Puntacana Foundation. Consisting of lowland subtropical forest, the reserve covers 1,500 acres of land dedicated to conservation, scientific research, and recreation. The Ecological Reserve is a forest reserve with twelve freshwater lagoons, five of which visitors can swim in. Historians discovered that the Taíno Indians, the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the island, referred to the lagoons as “eyes” because of their distinctive shape. For this reason, the Ecological Park and Reserve was named “Ojos Indígenas” or “Indigenous Eyes.”The Ecological Park consists of numerous exhibits describing the cultural and natural history of the island.

Even better in real life

If you are looking to commune with nature, this is the perfect place. I was drawn to it because of the images of the clear lagoons with blue/green waters and it was even more amazing IRL. As a bonus we got to see a huge iguana which is rare as they do not apparently come on to the trail. It’s quite a long hike if you want to see all the bodies of water, we did 7 (out of 12) comfortably in 2.5 hours including swims in 2 of them. There is a $50 entrance fee which we were happy to pay to help keep this beautiful forest reserve open to the public.

If you have the chance visit this place… Everything about it is special, is are clear and cold, we had a blast and enjoyed every moment over there.
Entrance is $50 per person, a little bit pricey if you asked me but it worth every penny spent you will not regret paying that fee. My 11 years old kid had a great time too he didn’t want to leave the place

Amazing nature
Jun 2021 • Couples
A great place to enjoy nature and swim in cool crystal clear waters. The ecological reserve is a short 10 minute golf cart ride from Tortuga Bay Puntacana Resort. Admission is free for guests of the resort. Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, towels and water. There are 12 freshwater lagoons. Three are open for swimming. The last and biggest lagoon has a diving platform. This lagoon is deep. Make sure to check out the other lagoons for fish and turtles.

I was there last week it is a beautiful and wonderful place to have a very relaxed time, only that they have to improve the service of their employee I was attended by a thin boy with glasses with a bad character and I do not understand how to get to the lagoons I got lost and I went out to the other door at least I found a very nice girl and she explained to me how to get there and see all the lagoons, that's how they should all be

swimming in clear water
Feb 2020
it's an easy walk into the pools area. We were able to dive in or just sit on the little wood dock and watch the turtles. Good family trip for two hours, easy walk in the shade to get to the pools. so quiet in this part of Punta Cana. beautiful place, bring a towel.

This was well worth the trip. Nice walk amongst the trees with a little cool swimming. We had entrance covered since we were staying at the Westin.

Fun day
Nov 2019 • Family
Spent day swimming in freshwater lagoons. Something different and very cool. Great way to spend few hours and hiking through trails to the various lagoons wasn’t too difficult. Would recommend giving it a try for something little adventurous.

Beautiful clear lagoons
Nov 2019
We went around 11:00am on a warm November day but on the trail there were trees offering a lot of shade. It was about a 20 min walk to the first lagoon and 45 min walk for the whole loop. The lagoons were absolutely beautiful. The kids went in, the water was really, really cold, but they thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a free entry for us - covered by the Westin we stayed it. We almost missed the bus on the way back but overall it was a calming, beautiful experience.
