Is was quite disappointing. The beach was incredibly dirty - it was littered with plastic waste (anything from plastic bottles, plastic cups, plastic bags, plastic straws which are still allowed, plastic bottle caps), to glass bottles from every imaginable drink. None of the vendors working on the beach seemed to care.

It is very difficult to find a public beach, that is (as the word says) not part of a resort. This one is adjacent to (the only) resort there, but is not part of the property. Once accessed, you will find a nice beach and incredible waves the dive into, or do wave riding.
This beach is REALLY free of charge. This is the only annoying thing in the Dominican Republic, that the beaches are almost solely blocked by large resorts, who make the beaches ‚private‘.
If you bring your own (hotel) towel you may be allowed to use some of the hotel sun beds. Otherwise, you can rent sun beds or lay in the sand.

A great beach day is guaranteed. The sea is quite different, compared to the on just 20 minutes away in Bavaro. I would say, on this beach you have ‚real‘ waves, not just small ones.

We have been going to Macao beach for over 7 years now. It's absolutely fabulous! Since the construction of the Dreams Resort, the road to be taken is quite rough. I understand road improvement is in progress. The prices of beachfront restaurants have probably doubled this past year and so has the price for chairs, parasols and cabanas (huts). You will encounter some men in the parking area asking for pesos as they claim they guarded your vehicle. The parking is absolutely free - do not pay.

ALWAYS ASK FOR THE PRICE FOR BEACH CHAIRS BEFORE YOU SIT AND PAY IMMEDIATELY. SOME WILL TELL YOU IF YOU ORDER FOOD OR DRINKS CHAIRS ARE FREE! NOT SO! A MAN BY THE NAME OF FRIKI IS TO BE AVOIDED! MANY HAVE REPORTED HIM. Pay no more than 500 pesos for two chairs and one parasol! As much as we enjoy supporting the population, we now bring our own drinks and food. The prices are ludicrous!

Nice wide beach which was great for walking - walk to the end and see the fresh fish that was just caught or watch the surfers!

Amazing relaxing beach. 15 minute cab ride from our hotel, just bring your towel and a couple of dollars to get some coconut and beer. Wish we stayed longer and that we could have come back a few more times. Def visit! You can get a chair and go get food and do activities or you can do what we did, nothing and just relax!

This I a beautiful beach with rock cliffs on the end. The water is calmer then in the resort area. The beach is slowly being taken by resorts, which is sad. There is minimal parking and it is a hike to the beach from parking.

Our all-inclusive resort’s beach had plenty of seaweed so the locals recommended Macao Beach. It was a 30 minute ride from our hotel and it was well worth it. There are restaurants on the beach and it is open to the public. You can choose to pay for beach chairs and umbrellas for a small fee but that is totally optional. It was a pleasant day to swim in the warm blue ocean!

Cons:
- tons of seaweed scattered all over the shore and water, which prevented me from surfing (it got caught up in my leash)
- horrible ecological preservation, really a crime against nature: just as much litter on the grass area as seaweed on the beach
- Transfer is a bit pricy. A more logical solution would be to rent a car and drive there by yourself, especially when planning on surfing there more than once.
- poor hygiene standards of the restaurant employees; french fries were half raw; also prices for the food seemed too high for me

Pros:
- fair rent and great options of high quality boards
- owners and employees left a very positive first impression to me. Communication and social skills are impeccable
- shack grill's fish snack was tasty, i recommend the fileto de doredo for those who like fried fish
