Great River Day Tour - off the beaten path!
Sep 2019
We were picked up from our hotel and after a quick drive we arrived at the Chavón River bank. We were welcomed by Rob, a Dutch guy who chose to live in the Dominican Republic 20 years ago. He is very nice, seems to have a good relationship with the locals and was a great guide. Our tour was conducted in German and English. Our group had 19 people total (mostly Europeans and a Canadian couple), I believe groups aren't a lot bigger that that, so we had an exclusive and relaxed experience. The boat ride was smooth, it had chairs and tables for everybody, was very spacious and comfortable. We were served fresh tropical fruits, water, coke and rum. After a 20 minute boat ride, we arrived at the ranch, we learned so much about the local flora and fauna! They have a beautiful butterfly garden, beautiful birds, we met Billy the iguana, Bo the snake (with which we got to interact after lunch) and even a Tarantula!

We also visited another location, Yuca Llena, where we learned about the local plants, got to see how chocolate is made and even tasted a delicious hot chocolate drink with ginger and cinnamon. We took a brief hike, passed over a hanging bridge, and kayaked! The most adventurous of the group got to swing with the "Tarzan Rope". If you want to have a fun, relaxed day, learn a lot of things about the flora and fauna of the Dominican Republic, be off the tourist path and feel like you're living a unique experience, I highly recommend this trip!!

Excellent experience in exploring rainforest
Dec 2018
Very exciting and relaxing experience! Many thanks to our tour guide, Robert, who had been so patient and understandable to a small group of ten seniors with an average aged 65 who walked very slow and always needed a hand in climbing up and down the trail. The boat cruise was so relaxing with music, fresh fruits, and drinks for us to enjoy. Robert always stayed in the front of the boat to look for different kinds of special species so we could take pictures of them. We were so excited to see live hummingbirds, eagles, rhino-iguana, snakes, crows, different kinds of butterflies. We learned a lot of amazing information from Robert, and was so impressed what they did to establish an area to try to tell people the importance of saving environment. Love the authentic Dominican food, and also love the friendly staff there. Highly recommend!!!

Fun and relaxing way to spend the day!
Jan 2018 • Friends
What an absolutely fabulous day we got to spend on 01/27/18! The day trip to Tanama Jungle Ranch was a great learning experience. Our guide, Richard, was very knowledgeable about the conservation efforts, animals, butterflies, hummingbirds and fauna of the area. The weather was not in our favor and the river was running too fast to kayak or swim, but that did not detour from our enjoyment of the day. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We fed the turkey vultures, met the large iguana, posed for pictures with the parrot and even held the sweet boa constrictor. All things none of us had done before. I highly recommend this activity. BTW, this was a group of 4, all over 50 adults and we all have nothing but rave reviews for this activity!

Great day trip for families! a mix of nature, fun and learning!
Jul 2017 • Family
Visited Tanama with a school group of 30 as an end of year activity for kinder... perfect setting for 6 year olds..
Constant contact with nature, freedom to run, ask questions, touch exotic animals and just be kids...
The staff is super friendly and patient! imagine a tour for ten 6 year olds that went smoothly... these people are real professionals!
Food is typical dominican food... very tasty and lots of it..
For me (as an adult) the highlight was the boat trip to the ranch (starts at the dam in rio chavon) and the green, lush views... for the children of course the snakes, iguanas, butterflies, vultures, parrots...
Special thanks to our guide Robert, like most of the staff he really put his heart into making this a memorable experience!
No downside on this trip... if you have kids, wish to do something different and love nature this one is for you...
There's a short nature trail, a tiny pool and lots of space to explore...
I contacted them via Ingrid - Seavis at (1) 809 833 0477
Trust me you'll enjoy this one...

Excellent, the entire experience was excellent. The staff, the boat ride, canoeing, lunch the tour of the grounds and all the interesting things we learned. Well worth it. We bought the CD of our time there. The photographer was good and truly captured the beauty of the jungle and the fun we all had.

Very enjoyable day.
Apr 2016
Was pretty much as described on the web site and was a very enjoyable day spent on or near the water on the pontoon boat that took us up to the ranch were we saw the butterflies ect... After a good traditional lunch that included chicken and pork chops along with other local vegetables and rice we headed back for the boat. Did the Kayak thing for about 30 minutes then another 1/2 hour or so on shore where we saw a lot of trees and plants that grew in the area. A good bit of hill climbing with some questionable stairs that my wife never would of been climbing. But anyways. Unfortunately our group was pretty big being 25 germans or german speaking other nationalities and my wife and my self along with another Romanian couple who spoke english. It seems like it took 5 german words to say the same thing a person could speak in english in one word. At some points in the tour we were split up and that helped a lot.

There was a couple nice guys snapping picks all day long and at the end were selling CD's of photos probably hundreds of them on them. And they had some good picks but wanted another $40 or $45 US for them. And honestly I though that a bit much but I guess they get away with it as I saw a number being sold. If I was the operator I would just throw it in with the price of the tour maybe raise the price another 3 bucks to cover the cost. There was a bit of a felling of pressure to buy them placed on my wife and myself I mean when some guy who makes maybe $300-400 (The guide says they pay the locals a bit better then average.) a month says. "Hey it's not a lot of money you know only $40 dollars" Well you know your being given a line. Anyways good tour if your interested in that kinda stuff and have a hundred bucks to blow I would recommend it for that.

Enjoyed this excursion very much. Would highly recommend. Was able to sample coconut water and fresh fruit as a refreshing treat. The butterfly farm was very interesting as well as the other animals and plants of the rain forest.

Amazing day! Highly recommend especially if you need a break from the beach!
Jul 2015 • Family
This was the first cruise that we booked excursions from reviews on trip advisor and I'm so glad that we did! We had 9 people in our group. 4 teenagers, 2-40+ and 3-65+. We had already had several days of pool and beach and needed a little break. I am greatful I took to heart what others had said about the confusion at the port finding the correct taxi. Given what we knew, we still had a very hard time and thankfully I had the paperwork printed and our non-english speaking driver finally got us to speak to someone who got us in the right direction. My recommendation to Seavis is to email and exact map of where the river boat is so that you can print out and show them exactly where you want to go. Our driver seemed pretty upset that he had to drive us there but he did and picked us up as expected. He did however try to say we owed more money than we were told so we were able to speak to an english speaking women who told him otherwise. We sailed down the river, kayaked, went off rope swing, short hike through jungle, had an amazing freshly prepared meal that was delicious and filling, drank and danced! Highly recommended!! They also worked with us on times according to our port times so don't worry about what is says on the website.

What a day!
Aug 2015 • Family
We were staying at Club Med Punta Cana with our kids and found their excursions expensive and not to our taste. We searched online and found this gem. We booked by phone at hotel reception and got picked up by a car at the hotel entrance two days later. The drive to Rio Chavon took about 1 hour but provided plenty to see and air conditioning. At the river we got on to a large flat raft/river boat with straw roof and lots of cafe tables. We were probably about 20 people all in all. We had a truly wonderful guide , Robert from Holland, who had such charisma and passion he nearly made us want to move to the island ! He and his wife moved here 16 years ago and are hugely involved in saving animal species and the rain forest.
We chugged slowly down the beautiful river for about 30 min where we saw turkey vultures sailing above, stunning nature and smiling people . We were served drinks and fruit all the way.
At arrival to the ranch Robert took us around the most important plants, explained the Eco system , showed us the new born butterflies, iguanas, Hispaniola parrots, Dominican roses, zombie ants and plenty more. After this we were served a delicious Dominican lunch of meats, rice and beans and salad and fruit, coffee and mamajagua.
We took another short trip further up the river where guests could swim, kayak and throw themselves off a crazy rope swing into the river. Plenty of rum and coke to go around and everyone in good spirits.
We were than taken back on the riverboat to pick up point and driven back to the hotel by our driver.
This is a full day trip. 8 am and back at 6pm. We will never forget this adventure and are hugely grateful for having been blessed to experience such a wonderful place. Couldn't recommend it more!

Fun, Educational, Relaxing and Worth It!
Jun 2015 • Friends
This was worth the cost compared to excursion costs on Carnival. They were very friendly and the trip included EVERYTHING listed in their overview. Robert was very knowledgeable and made the experience one we will always remember. It is very relaxing and informative. They created a picture CD of you and your group which you could purchase but there was truly no pressure to get it. The only issue was it was a little confusing where to go once you got off the ship, so ask at the information desk and follow their instructions. We had no problems with the transfers to and from the boat and we made it back with time to do some shopping before we had to get back on the boat.
