Hands down one of the BEST excursions we’ve ever done! My husband and I planned a graduation cruise for our teenage kids and brought a groups of friends to celebrate with us. After reading the reviews on both TripAdvisor and Carnival, it was a no brainer on who to book this excursion through. The cruise line chargers $20 more for the EXACT SAME excursion, minus the most thrilling part, which is jumping off of the rocks. Apparently, when you purchase through the cruise line you aren’t allowed to jump off of the rocks. When we got to the second jump, we saw a group of cruisers who obviously booked through the cruise line, and I almost felt bad for them because they were missing out on the best part :( The hiking part was a little intense, but that’s coming from someone who does not work out. For the hiking part, I recommend wearing thick sole water shoes or just a pair of tennis shoes you don’t mind getting wet. There are parts of the trek that are rockier than others. Ari was our lead guide, and he was AWESOME!!! There were 2 other guides with us, Winston (I think) and another guy with dreads (just can’t remember his names at the moment), but they were also great!!! The kids had the time of their lives. The rum punch on the way back to port was an added bonus! The bus was nice, clean and well air conditioned. We will definitely do this again when we come back to Dominican Republic.

Do not book with the ship!! This tour is better and cheaper! Ship tour won’t let you do the jumps!!! They watched us do it while standing in huge lines!! -15 min walk from the dock to the pickup point. Easy to find. Bus was clean, cool and comfortable. Take your cell phones because they offer WiFi on the bus and your items will be secure on the bus when get to the waterfalls. Do not take anything on the hike, leave it on the bus!! They will tell you exactly what you need. -Winston was our guide, fantastic job!!!! He was joined by two additional guides at the park, they are not Amber cove employees, so please tip them well! They did an amazing job keeping us safe on a pretty risky evolution! -We took an underwater camera, they have photographers you can hire. -I recommend old tennis shoes. Water shoes with thin soles will be brutal walking on the loose stones underwater and the rocks on the trail. Sneakers are the way to go!! -Initial hike will be a challenge for those that are not in OK shape. If you can’t hike uphill for 35 min, this may not be for you. -Waterfalls were beautiful, the jumps and slides were exhilarating! Don’t chicken out, do the jumps! So much fun!!! -12 waterfalls was perfect, any more would have been too much time in the water. We were ready to dry out after the last slide. -Bus ride back to port was great. Rum punch and a stop for fresh bananas was a plus! THESE FOLKS DO IT RIGHT! Reviews are on point. This was a highlight on our cruise!!!! Strongest possible recommendation for this excursion!!

Beautiful waterfalls, but the falls guides rush you through it. If you want the best pictures, you won’t have time to take your own, you will need to purchase from the photographer. Bring a bag of Halloween / individually wrapped candy for the children on the ride up the mountain. Little kids chase the bus and ask for candy it was heartbreaking not having any.

We met our guide, Winston, just outside the cruise port gate. Winston was an excellent guide showing us the highlights of Puerto Plata including the town square, Umbrella Street and the Pink Street. He told us all about the history of the Dominican Republic as we rode and walked, also seeing the beach and Ft. San Felipe. Then we were off to ride the Cable Car to the Isabel de Torres National Park where the Botanical Gardens are and the statue of Christ the Redeemer. The views of the coast and Puerto Plata were stunning. This excursion is a great way to get a quick overview of Dominican Republic in a short amount of time. Gives you a feel for the landscape, the culture and the people.

We booked this tour through Vacationstogo with our cruise. We had a great time, it was amazing to go through the waterfall jumping and swimming at points. The day was hot and the water was cold making it a great experience. We also paid $50 to have someone be our photographer for the day which meant we didn't have to worry about holding on to anything and could really just enjoy the experience. I would recommend it to anyone looking for anything a little more active (it does require jumping, swimming, and a hike in the beginning), I couldn't stop smiling after we finished for a while. We also got some rum punch and stopped for some fresh bananas on the way back which was perfect after the long day. Highly recommend!
