This is a long, sectional trail that winds from one end of the island to the other.

I section hiked Capuchin to Syndicate, some sections twice, and First Camp to Colihaut. The hardest sections were 8 and 9. I advise using a guide especially on those segments... read more

I section hiked Capuchin to Syndicate, some sections twice, and First Camp to Colihaut. The hardest sections were 8 and 9. I advise using a guide especially on those segments even though the trail is well marked for safety reasons; I only met 2 people on the trail. Those sections which go through the rainforest are steep and involve multiple... More

Attention: Natural Resource Department, Dominica If you want people to go out of their way to visit Dominica and hike the National Trail you have some work to do!! I recently visited Dominica and I mentioned to a local person that I was going to hike the 1st segment of the National Trail. They highly recommended that I do the... More

Not ideal during rainy season. It is difficult to find a map of the trail with detailed information. We found a book with all the segments for 20 US at the wildlife center at the end of the Valley rd. The center is not good indicated but it' s at the end of the road to the botanical gardens. Ones... I hiked a part of the trail from the Emerald Pool to the magic mushroom farm, and it was amazing. Very challenging at times but well worth it. We didn't see a soul on the trail during our entire track . It was like being in the middle of the forest. Would love to more of the trail on my... More

The Waitukubuli National Trail is a crown jewel for Dominica and has attracted hikers from all over the world. There are sections for all levels of hikers. This trail shows the best of all the natural sites on the island. Be prepared for some wet hiking, as you'll be in a tropical rain forest most of the time. There are... More

The "Waitukubuli National Trail" isthe most important and spectacular attraction of the island. A lot of ways and places to visit : tropical jungle, waterfalls, hot springs, lake of boiling water... Personaly, I took a guide (be careful, there is few good guide and a lot of bad guide) for difficult parts of the trail.

Starts out EASY but muddy. Then heads up the mountain and is very steep. During the descents you slide from tree to tree to stop from slipping straight down. There are 2 great lookouts that have picnic tables and covered areas. A few benches on the trail, too. Great views, heard the local parrots, and enjoyed the trail. There were... More

We only had a couple days on hiking on the trail in March 2016. Section 6 was fairly easy and we ran into some trail maintenance people who were clearing tall grass. Section 5 we were going North to South and got a bit lost after the Emerald Pool. There looked to be a part that was blocked off and... More

It was a very well marked trail but no indication of where you were, which became a bit alarming. The map bought from the forestry dept. was no help! It was exremely wet and slippy which made walking very slow. The forest was beautiful and we will never forget hearing the mountain whistler which seemed to answer my whistle. We... More

What a fun surprise!! We hiked the trail and discovered Emerald Falls! Beautiful! Learned about the movies filmed in the area! We found a taxi and driver who gave us a set rate and drove us around telling us about the island!! Great fun!
