This is the most beautiful place I've ever eaten ice cream at. I think we mistakenly ate with the locals, but hey, they took my CUP. The ice cream is nothing special but the building is spectacular.

As a tourist they will completely take advantage even when we could speak fluent Spanish. The queue outside the locals heckled you and asked for money. The guards bypassed us and took us upstairs. It was clearly a hustle. The room was empty, no windows like other tripadvisor reviews. The menu short and EXPENSIVE. Who in their right mind would... More

Off Avenida 23 (best known as La Rampa) is the open air ice-cream parlour known as Coppelia, by far the largest branch of a national chain. Long lines form among Cubans but foreign visitors who pay in CUCs can fat track these lines by using a separate entrance. The range of ice-cream flavours is very limited but the quality is... More

No sensitive tourist should visit this disgusting place. I recently visited with a Cuban friend and her two daughters and stood in the line for Cubans. We waited three hours in the queue and over an hour when we got inside. My friend was told by the rude staff there was only strawberry ice cream and no sweets or cakes... More

If you go to this place on a Sunday, you can see local people standing in ridiculously long lines waiting to buy some ice cream. As a tourist you don't have to queue because there is a separate area for tourists. They will probably have only 2 or 3 choices of ice cream but this place is definitely worth to... More

The CUP queue is interesting as it shows just how use to queueing Cuban people are for most things, wifi, foreign exchange and buying food. You don't need a lot of Spanish to order and sit with the locals. I sat with three strangers and with some broken Spanish we had some fun, shared some sugary Swiss roll and I... More

It reminded me of the queues you used to see outside Soviet shops on tv. We were dropped off by taxi and joined the cue. 30 minutes later, we followed the throng into the concrete temple of 60's concrete architecture. We landed at a table upstairs and eventually got an order taken. Our heaped plate of ice cream arrived and... More

La Coppelia is actually a huge flying saucer-like building taking up a whole city block and has been a Cuban institution since 1966. We were accosted by a guard who tried to get us to go to the tourist section (where you'll be served the same but will pay the same in CUCs as you'd pay in MNs so 25x... More

I love trying ice cream in the different countries I travel to and from I read in guide books, I had high hopes for Coppelia. The park in Havana was large and had many outdoor areas to sit and enjoy the ice cream desserts. It was always busy with locals, so it must be good, right? We decided to give... More

I did line up with the locals, sat with the locals, ate with the locals. The experience of lining up for ice cream, which is no different than any ice cream in Havana left me wondering: Why the line up. You pay 5 peso (0.20 cuc) for (in my case) 2 balls of ice cream. My neighbour got 3 balls... More
