Yellow as far as the eyes can see
Apr 2019
In Luoping, Yunnan Province, China, the valleys are planted with rapeseed plants. The plants begin flowering through March and April each year and this is the best time to visit this area. Yellow is the color as far as the eyes can see. When the petals dry and fall, the seeds are harvested. Canola oil is extracted from crushing the seeds.

Go during the best season
Mar 2019 • Solo
If you go during the best season, you can see an amazing view of yellow rapeseed.
If you go during other seasons, or when the yellow color of rapeseed is gone, you'll be disappointed.

Lack of view points to appreciate the beauty of the Luosi field
Feb 2019 • Family
The rapeseed flowers were planted according to the topography of the village, hence giving rise to the spiral shaped fields.
We found a view point at the roadside and managed to take some nice photos at the end.

Amazing Sea of Yellow
Feb 2018 • Couples
A sea of bright yellow covers the flat plains and countrysides during late Feb to early Mar in Luoping. The rapeseed flowers bloom for 2 weeks and then wither away. A haven for tourists & photographers, this yearly visual fiesta marks the beginning of spring.

Splendid views of canola flowers in spring
Feb 2018 • Solo
Luosi means "screw" and the area is called Luosi Field because some terraces look like screws. It is also known as Niujie (Cow St.) Screw Field. If one goes there at the right time of the year, the expansive views will blow your mind away. From mid Feb. (Chinese New Year in 2018) to early March, the fields are golden yellow in colour. Due to the short flowering period it is hard (economically) to turn the scenic area into a major tourist venue. Thus the road is under-developed for tourism. The area is packed with visitors mainly in those few weeks, particularly during the Chinese New Year. Go there really early in the morning to avoid the traffic jam. There is a narrow mountain road going up to the observation points. Finding a car-park space or a toilet is a real challenge. I went there in a tour bus hence there was not much hassle for me. There are hawkers along the road and a police car helped clearing the traffic. However in the morning the sunlight is not as strong as that in the afternoon so the photos will not be as impressive. The canola fields are huge so you may need a wide angle lens. The best is to study the photos on the internet before going there, in order to find the most attractive parts to shoot. Luck is important as the weather/ sunlight makes a huge difference. On a partly cloudy day, wait until the sun shines through the clouds to take some shots with good contrast.

Captivating canola fields
Feb 2017 • Friends
Be sure to visit during the flowering season in spring and you will be rewarded with spectacular views of massive fields of yellow/golden blooms. In fact they fill up the entire valley which you can conveniently view from high up.

Miss the canola flowers
Mar 2017 • Solo
As I visited during the last week of March, the canola flowers were gone. As it was low peak season, I could not find public transport and had to hire a private car, which brought me to a viewing platform next to a main road. The view was nice, with the ringed fields like a snail. I am sure the scenery will be fantastic with canola flowers. Hence strongly advice to visit at the right season, preferably in Feb instead of March.

Nice views of terraced rapeseed fields
Mar 2017 • Couples
Very interesting farming contours of the canola fields in bloom.

Be sure to check you haven't missed the fields before coming. Not as accessible as the jinji peak fields there is one hill with a few food vendors to enjoy the view.

Can be done at the end of a day trip with jinji peak and jiulong waterfalls. Accessories by public bus from the railways station easily too.
