A great short drive through the mountains of NC, but very scenic and worth the detour from main routes.

This is a lovely drive, with periodic, convenient lookouts with vistas into deep valleys and far over the forested mountains. We were here to view the eclipse (21august, 2017), so the activity and crowds were much increased over the usual, but I imagine for a...More

The highlight for us on this road was seeing a young black bear amble out of the woods and cross the road right in front of us! He climbed the hill on the other side, then sat down and watched us quizzically for several minutes....More

Did the skyway on my bike the first week of July. Great road! I did it from west to east, leaving in the morning and had no traffic in front of me. A number of cars and bikes were coming from the east but I...More

this is one of our favorite rides in this part of the country. It is well maintained and has slow curves and great scenery.

We drove the length of the Skyway this week and it was outstanding. While we have made this drive before, it always felt like a Blue Ridge Parkway light experience. This time it was just as good. The sides of the road were absolutely ablaze...More

We made this drive after completing the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was similar and had many beautiful vistas and well maintained roads. Fun drive

Amazing Views. It is definitely worth the drive. We stopped at Indian Boundary Campground which was a fun place to spend the day.

We enjoyed this drive, but honestly, we enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway much more. There are motorcycles driving VERY fast, and that made it less enjoyable for me. Plus this road is not nearly as well-maintained as the parkway (of course, because it's not a...More

The road in NC is great. Smooth as glass. When it enters into Georgia, not so much. But still a great ride. Well worth the trip and views are great

From what I read it doesn't sound like they will be closing off Parking... a couple of roads yes but gravel small ones. Who knows what could change! I know to expect heavy traffic everywhere though!!

There's lots of places to stay, finding beer is a lot harder to find, I would bring my own.
The question is wide open. How much time do you have? What do you want to see? How many miles a day do you want to ride? There are so many great roads in the region, it depends on what you want to do. There are several websites that have information on the region. I ride from Illinois to the "Tail of the Dragon" area once a year. I find something new every time. I'm 57 years young and find the entire area fantastic. On every trip, besides the computer preplan, I carry two sets of maps. Butler and America Rides Maps. Butler is by far one of the best maps for motorcyclist. In the region you are asking about, America Rides Maps has a group of maps that covers the region. No best route, until you know the mission. ENJOY! While in the Cherokee area if you have time, stop at Wheels Through Time Museum.

I don't really see a 'question' per se here, but I actually live right above the motorcycle resort. We even have friends from England, France and Brussels that travel here and say it is the most beautiful place in all the... More
