After leaving Taiwan for so many years, Jiufen is still one of my favourite place to visit in Taiwan. It's always nice to take a walk, have some Taiwanese street foods and enjoy the view from the top of the mountains. The hanging red lanterns...More

So cute and charming, but unfortunately the insane crowds of people make it an absolute nightmare. The town itself is adorable and views are majestic, but the old street itself is honestly my idea of misery. We rented a little house here and came back...More

Jiufen was, for a long time, a gold mining town. During World War Two, when Formosa, as it was then called, was colonised by the Japanese, they used allied prisoners of war to mine the gold. The gold ran out in the 1950s and it...More

We spent the night here in hopes of avoiding some of the crowds, but still found it incredibly busy. We were there in March, so I don't think it was even high season yet. It took forever to walk anywhere because the streets are so...More

The view was amazing of course, especially during sunset. There were many food sold along the street. But the only problem was the crowding tourists, especially at places like Ah Mei Tea House. Tourists were pushing and squeezing into place for the best view for...More

A good place to walk about for an hour plus to get local food and souvenirs. There are some very old school shops for children to play games that are from the 60s so it is a good place for family whose parents wanna re-live...More

With its air of historical heritage, Shuijinjiu
(ShueiNanDong, Jingguashi, Jiufen) used to be
prosperous and glamorous due to mining. Although its
magnificent semblance no longer exists, the peaceful
and beautiful atmosphere has persisted. With a wave to
the age of the gold rush, one can still see a glimpse
of its glorious past through the Golden Waterfall.

Never taken a cab from there but you can easily take the train from main station to Rui Feng and then the shuttle bus from there. Takes maybe an hour and it's quite cheap.
