Quite a unique site.

Checkerboard Mesa was quite a unique site along the Mt. Carmel Highway. Worth a stop for a photograph.

There are easy pull-offs to park and easy walks to take in the Checkerboard area. Not for strollers or wheelchairs though.

The drive through the park to get here is just as pretty as the checkerboard mesa formation. We saw big horned sheep on the way here.

There are better places but if you travel on the 13 mile Mt Caramel road you might as well stop to see this landmark

Very cool to see while driving to the visitor's center. Definitely worth it to stop and get a closer look and take some pictures.

To enjoy Zion, you can hike long or shrt trails, but you can also just park and enjoy this stunning view. I love this huge white hill with brainrock that stands out, it's really beautiful and with zero effort

The Checkerboard Mesa is an interesting geological formation and landmark located on Highway 9 through Upper East Canyon, around 1 mile from the Zion National Park East Entrance. Here you will see sandstone hills with grid-like crack patterns that resemble checkerboards. There is a car park where you can pull off and have a good look at this intriguing land... More

When you stop and take in these sights, it makes you realize that you are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The entire park is laid out perfectly

The Checkerboard Mesas located on Rt. 9 on the way from Mt. Carmel to Zion Park are massive and impressive! If you're lucky, you'll spot a few Longhorn Sheep who live in the mountains!

Observe this view on your way out of the park on Mt. Carmel road. There is a observation point along the road. It is cool how this formed into this pattern.
