The General's Highway is just the most wonderful drive through the stunning Kings Canyon and the wonderfully serene and majestic Great Sequoia National Park. At every viewing point your breath is taken away by the views. Up close the trees are so beautiful, General Sherman Tree is the picture postcard but the whole National Park is just so wonderful. Loved this drive. Changes every season and for that matter changes according to time of say. Would love to return in summer and fall.

The TREES were incredible and we managed to get into the park and out before a late spring snow storm hit. We loved it.

We knew when we planned our trip to Sequoia/Yosemite that we would have only 1 day to travel the Generals Highway and make some stops. We were concerned as to snow due to a snowfall 3 days earlier, requiring us to use chains...with the complete travel to Kings Canyon eliminate, but we were lucky! I was a little apprehensive as... The Generals highway is a peaceful hour plus drive from General Sherman to General Grant Trees, it links northwest and southern access to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks... It is generally open 12 months but has been closed for up to three months due to heavy snow as in spring 2011. For the best experience plan to Bummel,... More

In March of 2017 the road was open but there was snow higher than the road signs at times. It is what you would expect, a long winding mountain road between the parks. There are lots of places to pull over and have a look around.

Generals Highway. The 10 feet of snow already on the ground additional 8 inches made a difference going up the road though. We stopped to put chains on the car. The ride was uneventful really.there are very beautiful vistas both going up and down the mountain. definitely worth the trip

Take your time, pack snow chains in the winter, and a camera. You will want to stop at the pull outs to take numerous pictures. Absolutely beautiful. Look for the waterfalls.
