This is a terrific hike surrounded by Saguaros and many other cactus and desert plants. The views are amazing of the hills and there is a nice place to have a picnic about 1 mile in. Please note that it is a challenging climb to the top - a climb of about 1,600 ft over 3 miles. I loved it,... More

An excellent hike through the saguaro forests and canyons, past an old gold mining site. Great opportunities for photos of the desert vegetation, rock formations and the valley below.

We are seasoned hikers and gave this trail a serious try. But, after 2 hours in the constant sun traversing the unstable rocky footing, we turned around before making it to the summit. We found very few hikers there that day who made it to the summit. In summary, the scenery is nothing special and you can find far preferable... More

I was looking for a reasonable hike to see a good cross section of cactus in a natural environment. The ranger at the Red Hills Visitor Center suggested a loop starting on the King Canyon trail and returning on the Gould Mine trail both starting/ending at the K-24 parking lot across the road from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum parking lots.... The drive through Saguaro National Park is lovely and we found the King Canyon Trailhead easily enough, but we did not have a nice experience on our hike which was a loop that included parts of King Canyon Trail to Wasson peak, linked up to Hugh Norris Trail, then linked back via Sendero Esperanza Trail to make a large loop.... I used this trail and others to form a great loop hike from the King Canyon parking lot, taking in the summit of Wasson Peak for some truly fantastic views. The trail did get pretty steep and had plenty of loose rock, gravel and stone but overall it was an excellent experience taking in some brilliant scenery.

We partly took the King Canyon Trail and partly a wash. I simply love this place. We are visiting the Tucson Mountains already for years and we believe it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. When a lot of cactus are in bloom it is amazing. There are a lot of birds and it is so relaxing.... More

The drive out to the trailhead alone is a scenic adventure. This trail, and the larger park area, are just outside Tucson making it easily accessible for visitors and locals alike. The trail itself is easy enough to traverse if you are in decent shape. I heard some older couples (maybe in their 60s?) complaining about the loose rocks, so... More

Geology, beautiful desert vegetation. Really enjoyable hike. Opportunity to view pictographs and go off trail, too.
