Beautiful, Easy Walk Around the Lake

We are not spring chickens, so the idea of hiking at 10,000 feet did not appeal to me. Not to worry, my son assured us, I have a nice little walk for you. After driving through the park and seeing elk, big-horned sheep, a huge owl's nest, he took us to Bear Lake. It is a glassy lake surrounded by... More

Here's a critical view: this is a walk, not a hike, and about as much of an "escape to nature" as a city park. As schedules happened, we were passing through (on our way to Grand Lake) about 11 a.m. on a Saturday. By that point in June, we were already forced into the large primary park-and-ride. The shuttles came... More

This was a very calm, peaceful lake. There were plenty of places to relax and you could walk around the lake for different views.

There are some excellent inter-tube runs on this lake in the winter. The ice is blown clear so many times you can barely stand on it. Tube goes forever! (may need snowshoes)

At 9am on a Friday morning the parking lot was completely full, thus went to the park and ride and rode a ridiculously crowded bus with 50 of my sweatiest friends :( However, we got there, loved the hike and and the amazing beauty that Colorado has to offer!

At trip to Rocky Mountain National Park is never complete until you have visited Bear Lake in the beautiful Rockies. One of the most tranquil, peaceful settings in all of Colorado. It can be crowded during the peak season, but is well worth the time spent to visit this gorgeous lake.

We could only walk halfway around the lake because of the icy trails. It helps to park nearby. The shuttles weren't working during the first week of June.

A short easy hike offering great views. Very accessible even in busy periods by taking the frequent shuttle bus. If you plan on doing the popular Bear to Fern Lake trail, make sure to visit during mid summer as snow is still abundant in early June. If you have the time, go up to Emerald Lake, which offers a more... More

Bear Lake was absolutely beautiful! There was a trail that went around the entire lake for families to walk with their little ones. Our kids (ages 17-26) went on the hiking trails and had a blast exploring on their own. Make time to stop at all the other lakes along the way while you are making your way up to... More

We loved RMNP! Bear Lake was wonderful, and only a few hundred feet from the parking lot, and only a half mile walk around the lake. Also, go on Trail Ridge Rd up to the Alpine Visitor Center...amazing scenery.
