Someone suggested that we hike up Old Fall River Road and check out the waterfall. It's easy walking because its a road but it gets pretty steep and there are several switch backs. It's about a one and a half miles, but we made it and the waterfall is great. There is also a great view of sheep lake and... More

This is a beautiful drive to the top of Trail Ridge. It is dirt most of the way. It's a good way to get away from the crowds. Some beautiful waterfalls on this road. Parking is very limited so go early. We packed a lunch and found a quiet spot away from the road. Towards the top we saw lots... More

The Old Fall River Road was the first automobile route to penetrate the interior of Rocky Mountain National Park. Work began in 1913 but was interrupted in 1914 by World War I with the final construction being completed between 1918 and 1920. The road linked the east side of the park near Estes Park with Grand Lake on the west... More

We took the Fall River Road up to the visitor center then the Trail Ridge Road back to Estes Park. A great day drive.

We took this road up to the visitor center, it's a one way gravel road with very sharp cutbacks and very bad ruts in the road. In our opinion the views from Trail Ridge road are better. We did stop and do a couple of hikes along the way which was very nice. So if you're wanting to do one... More

Wonderful slow drive. Beat way to get to the top. Make sure and stop at the falls and signs well in advance , parking is a premium and no turning around.

A must see if you are in the area. Along with seeing the elk in "rut", the scenery was breathtaking and a bit scary in places if you are not accustomed to very steep drops.

This road was closed for the season, but we stopped at Endovalley Picnic area. It is one of our favorite places in the park. It is quiet and has a river running through the picnic area. It is the perfect place to rest and listen to nature.

This one-way road we took when heading back after the day on the east side of the park. There were so many people that Saturday, which made the usual highway full of traffic going west. We took a chance and went this route to see if it was open (as it was closed the week before from snow). Well, we... More

We did this drive 3 times during our stay. The scenery is beautiful but the road is not for the faint hearted! Very steep, single track (it's a one way road so no oncoming traffic), with sheer drops to the sides. Well worth it!
