The hike to bumpass hell is nice but not recommended for strolleys and elderly since it can be a little steep at some places. The location itself is nice but somehow disappointing since quite small. This is even more true if you have already seen...More

In the visitor center, this was advertised as the best hike for us to do with our three young kids. We had fun, but it turned out to be more difficult than advertised, and as frequent visitors to Yellowstone, the hot pots were pretty underwhelming....More

My first hike at Lassen and the first time for me seeing Yellowstone-esque features. Definitely a must-do. It has nice views at the beginning of the hike, and the destination has really neat color combination (light blue water, light colored sand...very photogenic). We always start...More

To view these thermal springs & mud pots you have to hike 1.5 miles on what was at times a difficult mountain trail. The only other place like this in the US is at Yellowstone National Park. My wife who was 1 month removed from...More

I wouldn't call Bumpass Hell incredible or beautiful but it's definitely unique and interesting. The effort it takes to arrive is just about right for what you get to see. It's a pleasant hike with nice views along the way. I found the information along...More

It's about 3 miles round trip. It's a little up-and-down, like most hikes, but nothing too up or too down. Saw people of all ages on the trail. I did it in 1 1/4 hours. That was at a fairly decent pace but also included...More

Bumpass Hell is like a mini-Yellowstone if you will. The trail has some portions that you have to ascend/descend but it isn't steep and is one of the "easier" trails at Lassen. It is definitely worth the time to go and see. It is a...More

Worth the hike - about 1.5 miles to get to the thermal area and all on good trail. We hiked early in the morning to beat the crowds and had the area to ourselves.

It was definitely a moderate hike going to Bumpass. The incline tired me a bit but I felt so good afterwards. Make sure to bring two bottles of water per person and some sandwiches. Weirdly enough you get strong phone reception once you get a...More

This was one of our favorite areas on our visit to Lassen National Park. The walk to the geothermal areas is not bad at all...a little hilly at the end, so the walk back up was a little strenuous, but well worth it. The familiar...More

No. Bring a carrier if you have a baby / toddler. Trail may be challenging for young kids. But definitely worth it!

Not advisable to take a stroller on this hike. Trail is rocky, exposed to about 200 feet drops on several stretches and the last leg of the trail has smooth powdery and hence slippery sand and is a steep downhill to the... More
