You have to purchase the ticket at the Oasis Visitor Center about 3 to 4 hours before the tour. A park ranger is greeting the participants at the gate on schedule. The site shows how difficult to survive in the desert hash enthronement.

Our Marana, AZ hiking clubs were given a private tour of the Keys Ranch inside Joshua Tree National Park. There is a public tour every Thursday, but the rangers did not want our group of 22 taking up all the spaces on the public tour....More

To get to Keys Ranch you have to take a Park Ranger guided tour. It's well worth it and you'll learn a lot about how the ranchers lived in the Old West.
