My family and I visited the National Park in November of 2017 - fantastic place. They convinced me to go through the Thurston Lava tube - I am claustrophobic so while I loved the scenery the tube was done very quickly. After the recent eruptions...More

A simple and easy walk through. We saw many tour groups going through, which should indicate that it's a pretty easy walk and nothing too treacherous. It was very dark inside and they advised that we would only need flashlights after dark, but we still...More

Now that the Thurston Lava Tube is no longer accessible, I'm so glad I went through it as many times as I did. One can only hope once they assess the safety of the tube, that it will re-open so visitors can experience this magnificent...More

This unique hike is a walk through a lava tube. You first have a 10 minute walk through a fern forest. Ferns are the first form of life after the devastation of a volcanic eruption. The cave itself is dark and can be slippery from...More

We walked through the Lava tube for the experience. Parking was tricky, but people don't spend a lot of time at the tube so we waited for a spot to be available. It was cool and wet inside -- make sure you are wearing the...More

Definitely stop to walk thru the Lava Tube if you are touring Volcano National Park. It's a short stop but very interesting, as it is a natural phenomenon. There is a short walk, that slopes down so if it is rainy or wet, be careful.

Consider the creation of the lava tube as you stroll through it. It is difficult to imagine that molten lava once flowed where you are walking. Embrace the experience!
