After our 3rd visit to the island, we finally made time to visit Haleakala Crater, and I'm so glad we did!! We were very lucky that it cleared up at the top! It was a beautiful drive up to the top, being able to see...More

On our recent trip to Maui (May 2017) we decided to do a sunset tour to the Haleakala crater. We were just not up for a 2am trek, and standing in the dark cold. We decided on Gray Line since very few companies do a...More

Don't miss the sunrise, it's well worth getting up at 3AM. The best is getting a ride up, watching the sunrise, then riding bikes down to flat land.

You must bring a jacket here, preferably waterproof, to enjoy this experience. My husband and I hiked the 12 mile Sliding Sands Trail, and it was one of the best we have ever done! We went through so many various areas of vastly different different...More

Worth the drive and getting up a 3am. Spectacular views! Be prepared it is cold at the top. We had rain and clouds but it cleared after a couple hours. Still worth the drive. Stop at the Lavender Fields on the trip down. Beautiful!

After a disappointing ride on the Road to Hana we decided to take a ride up to Haleakala Crater. It was lightly raining and cloudy and we hesitated at first. But, as we started to go further up the clouds started breaking up. Once we...More

We got up early (3 AM) to make the drive from Kihei to see the sunrise over the crater. Absolutely worth it. Make sure you make a reservation through the National Park Service, as only those with a reservation can access the park prior to...More

My spouse and I chose to visit Haleakala Crater on our first trip to Maui, largely because everyone to whom we spoke said it was a must do. We decided to spend the afternoon driving up the crater, stopping along the way for pictures and...More

Unfortunately we could not see the sun rise because it was very foggy/misty. However, on our way down we had some awesome views!

Eat before you start on your trip up Haleakala crater. We saw Moana Kea and Moana Loa and the snow cap and they are 80 and 100 miles away. Remember to stay out of the gardens and on the paths so you don't disturb native...More

Hello! We are visiting Maui with our 5.5 year old and 2 year old boys in about a week. What is a good 1-day itinerary that includes a visit to Haleakala and maybe 1 or 2 other spots on the way back? I don't think we will do the sunrise tour as it will be too early for us to leave. Also, how long does it take from Kanaapali to get to the top? Thank you!

Aloha - coming from Ka'anapali, budget about 2 hours so your little ones can take breaks from the long car ride. There's a county park in Pukalani with grass areas for them to run around on. Look up Tavares Community Center... More
Can you someone recommend a touring company? Unfortunately this time we will not be able to do the drive on our own.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question. Our bicycle tour company included all fees with our bike tour. You should consider doing the bike tour if possible. It is so much fun!
