I think we woke up around 4:00 am and I would definitely recommend anyone thinking of going to go and see it. The reviews that suggested we bring warm clothes were not kidding. I was so thankful we had worn all the warm clothes we brought with us to Maui for this excursion. Waiting outside for the views although cold... More

It was a really nice trip and the view was amazing! Highly recommend! It was little chilly there but still worth it!

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Maui. I had been looking forward to it for a couple months. We were not disappointed. The drive up is of course a little sketchy but when you are climbing to 10,023 ft that is to be expected. We did a tour with Maui Astronomy and it was very informative,... More

At 10,034 feet above sea level Maui is COLD! at 12 PM it was 85 degrees and 6 PM at Sunset it was 34 degrees. Dress accordingly! A wonderful experience to be above the clouds, watching the moon rise and the sun set. The morning sunrise get all the crowds and the tour buses and very sleepy drivers trying to... More

Be prepared to rise early, around 4:00am, to arrive on time and park and situate yourself for a good view around the crater. Bring warm clothing! Even on summer mornings it is cold up on top of Haleakala. The morning we arrived there was a local Hawaiian singing to welcome the sun. It was amazingly beautiful to watch the sun... More

I have been up to and hiked through the crater many times and to this day it is one of my favorite places on the island of Maui. I spent the night at one of the cabins and was with a group that had our sleeping gear and food brought in by horse. I love the crater at sunrise and... More

We were staying in Lahaina while in Maui. With everything I had read here on tripadvisor I knew we had to get up early to be able to get a parking spot. So I woke everyone up at 2am and we left our hotel around 230. We drove straight from Lahaina to Mt Haleakala. It took us around 2-2.5 hours... More

Drop your car at hiker parking lot. Hitch up to upper visitor center. Start on sliding sands trail. Finish with 1500' climb for 1.7 miles to parking lot. Bring water and sun screen.

Great views although really really early start. All huddled together like penguins in the snow. Beautiful

Truly breath taking experience! Expect to wake up nice and early to arrive prior to the sunrise. The drive on the way up is long, dark and windy, up to the summit of 10,000 feet. Dress very warm as it can hover near freezing at the summit, and is wide-open. I recommend shoes and socks (leave your flip flops in... More
