I hadn't planned on doing this hike but am so glad I did. I got to Rainbow Falls pretty early in the day..this was the peak of fall colors so getting to the parking areas really early is a must....then I hiked a little further. Some man passed me on the trail and told me I should really do the... More

There are several trails that lead to LeConte summit . Alum Cave was fantastic with multiple features including creek, a unique Cave and bluffs and fantastic views along the way. Did this hike in close to 8 hours with 3 children. 10yr old , 8yr old, and 2 yr old in a hiking pack. Would consider moderate-strenuous.

We decided we wanted to do a hike while we were visiting the Mountains. We picked the Alum Cave Trail since there were quite a few neat landmarks to see along the way. We have never hiked before and would typically pick sand over dirt, but we figured what the heck! It was my husband, myself, and our 14 and... More

The views were okay. But boy that hot chocolate was out of this world! I mean talk about hot and chocolate. Scott Calvin on "The Santa Clause" thought the hot chocolate was great at the North Pole - but he didn't hike to Mount Leconte and try Mount Leconte hot chocolate. Get the hot chocolate for $4.00 - it's so... More

I hiked it! If you decide to hike to the summit of Mount LeConte, you will take great pride in exclaiming that as well. It is a LONG hike. My husband I did the ascent and descent in one day. We opted for the "Alpaca" trail. I am very amused by these animals so hiking a mountain with them was... More

Wow! This is a strenuous hike! Gorgeous scenery and well worth the 3 1/2 hours it takes to climb to the top. Highly recommend. Go early

This was a great hike! The temperature difference was amazing, be sure to have a coat and even hat/gloves. It was easily 20 degrees colder than down below. We hiked up from Alum Cave. We hiked all 10 miles (5 up and 5 back) in 5.5 hours we only stopped at the top for half an hour to enjoy the... More

Mount LeConte, 500 to 600 million years ago was the bottom of a ancient sea bed. Sediments from that sea bed may be found today on this popular mountain in the Smoky Mountains National Park. Part of the Appalachian Mountains, Mount LeConte was formed in a ancient time when there was very little life hence no fossil remains may be... More

Enjoyed our 2-day hike up to Mt. LeConte. Fall was in the air and the scenery at the top can be spectacular (unpredictable though). We took the Grotto Falls/Trillium Gap path because the Alum trail was closed. We enjoyed the opportunity to make this trek and enjoy Mt. LeConte but I would not choose this trail again. It was ~6.7... More

We hiked up to Mt. LeConte via Alum Cave Trail on Oct. 30th (took us approx 3 hrs), which was a gorgeous day!!!! Spectacular views along the way and lots of great photo shots. We rested in Alum Cave for a little bit before continuing the hike upwards. Make sure to hike up to Cliff Tops (an extra .2 miles)... More
