Just went all the way. Downhill for nearly 8 miles is brutal. Be in shape to go beyond Santa Marie springs. Brace yourself for beauty beyond description... and to feel small again. The full Hermit/Monument trail is not for the timid or the unprepared. Trails...More

It is the only place west of Grand Canyon Village that goes down into the canyon. The trail is different than most of the other trails although being the only one west it is well used.

So you came to the Grand Canyon thinking you would at least hike a little way down, and then you looked over the rim. The trails at the Grand Canyon are not for cowards, but if you happen to be one....and your heart was set...More

Trail is very manageable, going down or up, but still requires a certain amount of energy. Well worth it. Great views, especially of the Bright Angel Trail and those brave enough to take it on.

The trail is a bit like Bright Angel in the you initially start by descending in a side canyon and only see various glimpses of the main canyon. Trail is truly unimproved with rocky debris and some steep steps at times. Definitely not doable in...More

Only words I can use are that this is one amazing walk. Hermits rest is a psectacular place to stop and take in the stunning view of the Grand Canyon

As I am unable to walk very far and the park ranger noticed my handicapped sticker, he issued us a day pass to drive the Hermit Trail. What a bonus for us, we could stop virtually anywhere there are designated pull-ins (watch out for the...More

This was a challenging trail--I am not going to down play that fact but so worth it! It was so peaceful and way less crowded than Bright Angel. I even felt like some of the trail was better maintained. We only hiked part of the...More
