My nephew and I hiked the North Kaibab trail to Phantom Ranch on June 30. We checked out of our cabin at the north rim early and were on the Bridal trail to the North Kaibab trailhead by 2:30am. We had our headlamps on which...More

I would say this trail is wonderful, but the stench from the mules was horrible. The views are spectacular. (We went as far as the tunnel) Our smallest hiker was 7 so it is ok for a family, but get an early start the heat...More

After being here at the canyon for over two years now, I love to explore a new trail every month. This trail is for the more experienced hiker but it was still a wonderfully beautiful view of the canyon even though I counldn't hike very...More

My family hiked a portion of this trail. I went as far as the Coconino Overlook. I sat on some big rocks and enjoyed the scenery while the rest of my family hiked to the Supai Tunnel. It was a workout! The first section was...More

We hiked down this trail to a campsite and it was very steep and very rugged. There was one functioning water stop with restroom facilities on the trail. You need to bring plenty of water particularly during the summer. The trail has several different surfaces,...More

We walked to the tunnel and back but it was very dusty and a mule tour group was just in front of us so not very pleasant. But the views were nice.

The trail was very well maintained and just beautiful. You share the trail with mules, so please be considerate of them and their handlers.

We departed the North Kaibab trailhead at 5:30a on May 22nd. 6 1/2 hours later we arrived at Phantom Ranch. In between we saw spectacular views, very few people, and stunning scenery. It is a well maintained trail, easy to follow, and a great starting...More

Just a wonderful view / trek down a well manicured trail. All beautiful / good except the mule poop piles and mule urine pools and flies (most of which don't bite but some do up at the trailhead closer to the mule stalls/pens. We went...More

We began in the chilly (25 degree) early morning with patches of snow evident in mid May. The Lodge had just reopened for the season. With stunning views and a steady pace, it became clear within the first hour of hiking that jackets needed to...More

My husband and I are planning a hike from North Rim to South, staying at Bright Angel campground at the bottom. We will do this in late Sept or early Oct next year. We are hikers and are in decent shape, but the 14 mile trip down seems daunting. Everything I read says you should take 2 days and stop at Cottonwood, but that means packing more food and tent, sleeping bag, pads. (Our plan was to use the duffel service at the South Rim so those items would be waiting for us at Phantom when we get to the bottom. That's why we were originally not stopping at CTW.) However, if we'd have to leave before dawn and possibly get there after sunset, we might even miss the best views! I'm torn. We have done the South Kaibab/Bright Angel twice now, so it's not like we don't understand the terrain. Grateful for any suggestions!

I've hiked from the North Rim to Phantom Ranch and Bright Angel Campground multiple times and your plan is solid. On one of my hikes I did stay at Cottonwood to be safe, but I found over the years doing the 14 miles isn't... More
