Normally this road is buses-only, but after December 1st there are no buses on the road so we took our rental car up the hill and spent most of a day seeing the many overlooks and pathways. we only saw a handful of people on our excursion - a great secret! Spectacular views and amazing at sunset! Worth the trip!

Most of the year you can only travel this way buy bus service from Bright Angel Lodge, 8 bus stops on the way to hermits rest, 4 on the return. Each stop is a different view point, and there is a trail between them, so you can walk one, bus one etc all the way to Hermits rest, then bus... More

Hermit Road is well serviced by the Red route. The service is frequent and you could choose to go back at some of the stops. The road terminates at Hermits Rest and has about 8-9 stops on the way. Don't skip Hopi Point, The Abyss and Hermits Rest- rest of the stops can be taken depending on your itinerary and... More

Of course we had to hit up the Grand Canyon on the way. We had no idea what to expect and I decided to dub it Disney of the National Parks. You buy a pass in ($30 for a week) and you basically drive yourself or park and take free shuttle buses to different places on the south rim. We... More

My 20 year old son and I (I'm 51) recently walked the 7 mile Hermit's route. It was gorgeous. My wife and 23 year old daughter walked about 4 miles of it and road the shuttle the other 3 miles. It is an easy walk if your in decent shape. Make sure you take plenty of water and have good... More

If you are lucky enough to get a seat on the right side of the bus, this is a great way to see lots more of the canyon. Lots of stops along the way to get some great pictures. Facilities are located at Hermit's Rest.

Hermit Road gives you access to 8 tremendous view points on the South Rim of Grand Canyon as well as Hermits Rest at the end of the road where you will find restrooms and a place to grab a snack and get some souvenirs. You can take the free shuttle buses to the various view points along the road and... More

The best view is from here. Pvt vehicles are not allowed. Queue for the shuttle bus is long. So plan accordingly. The bus does not stop at all the points while returning. So best is to get down at a stop, walk to the next one and ride to next one you like. There are quite a few trail options... More

the bus takes about an hour to complete the loop. There are 8 stops along the way, each with spectacular views. Buses pass by every 15 minutes, so there's plenty of time for short walks and lots of photos. Warning, there was a waiting line for the buses the 3 days we were in the park beginning around 5 pm...
