This is a wonderful hike and usually I can't stand it when there are a lot of people but this time I was happy. There were a great many bear droppings around the trail that were fresh so I say the more the merrier. It...More

About a three mile hike in (6 mile round trip). Absolutely gorgeous sceneries the entire way. Walking onto the beach was awe inspiring. Very few people, had the trail to ourselves most of the time and only a few people at the lake.

This was our first hike we did at Glacier, and I am glad we did it! Make sure you arrive early because parking can be a problem. The first part of the trail was beautiful with the rapids and gorge. The trail is a moderate...More

This is a little under a 5 mile roundtrip hike close to the west side of Glacier, and is well worth it to get the lake. It is mostly under the shade of trees. The lake is picturesque, with mountains and waterfalls. Parking is a...More

Short, easy hike into dry fly heaven! We wet-waded no higher than our thighs and caught a bunch of cut throat trout. The lake is easy to access, so great for families.

Finally made to Avalanche Lake, I grew up on the doorsteps of Glacier Park and finally made it. WOW, we are so lucky to have been blessed with such beauty. The hike is only 4.6 miles, but you will need to pace yourself and bring...More

First of all go early, certainly before 9:00AM. First half mile of the trail follows the Avalanche creek which offers a beautiful venue of whitewater and rapids while arousing the senses with sound. The trail then begins to climb for the next several miles through...More

Lake is beautiful, but not worth the almost 4 hours (round trip) to get there. Falls at the beginning are much more beautiful and a shorter hike. Water in shallow part of lake very cloudy and lake is not as pretty as Lake McDonald or...More

We hiked this 5-ish mile round trip out and back trail in the morning on our first full day at Glacier National Park. I would say this is a pretty moderate hike with some uphill travel on the way to the lake. The hike starts...More

This was one of my favorite hikes/spots in the park. I'm always up for scenery and workout while I'm at it. You'll get great views of Avalanche Creek/Gorge as you hike. Then with the 500ft gain and a good pace, you'll get a great workout,...More

Personally, I recommend making the drive to Many Glacier. Both the Grinnell and Iceberg hikes are amazing. Avalanche Lake is nice but nothing like other hikes in the park.

Hi Amy, There are plenty of hikes to take and I can't remember the names of all of them. I prefer hikes alongside streams and to lakes. When you get to Lake McDonald the locals will tell you which ones provide you with... More

You know to go earlier in the morning for the sun/lighting, and to see the most wildlife. From my experience, I think the Redrock falls hike offers the most variety of scenery. Here's a list from the Trails table I made... More
