We got to Garden Key on Christmas day and spent 3 days/nights there on our catamaran. We anchored in the bay where the ferry and seaplanes come in; although, it's not the official anchorage, the rangers have no problem with boats there. Walking through the Fort was like stepping back in time. We enjoyed reading about the history and seeing... More

After Fort Jefferson, we snorkeled on Garden Key. It was okay, but a long boat ride for less of an adventure than snorkeling in other keys. Don't go just for this.

Garden Key, an island in the Dry Tortugas where Ft Jefferson is located has everything the adventuresome, eco-minded traveler is looking for. And it lacks the noise, over-crowding, and dirt of Key West. Snorkel in the most pristine turquise waters of the Gulf of Mexico, enjoy sea life you will only find in an aquarium and more - the sharks... More

Great place to get off of the Yankee Freedom II and enjoy the fort and surrounding area. The waters are beautiful shades of blue and the fort is amazing.. This is a great place to snorkel and enjoy the sun.

The trip was wonderful. The ferry and staff were marvelous and efficient. The water is the drawing point, amazing for snorkeling and swimming. The Fort was interesting and you can explore it at your leisure. A must do excursion.

It is kind of pricey to go but the ferry supplies breakfast and lunch. The staff was so nice and Dry Tortugas is a place that you don't want to miss. This place is absolutely beautiful. Go and explore the island, the fort and the sealife in the moat. Or you can just hang out on the beach or snorkel.... More

Took a day trip to Dry Tortuga several years ago. My daughter and I vowed to return and spend time camping and hopefully enjoy the evening sky without the light pollution of the cities. We were sure it must be amazing. It is!!! We began our journey by arriving at 10 am and received an orientation talk from the park... More

Garden Key is the home of Ft. Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas National Park. Multiple ways to get here: the daily Yankee Freedom cruise (who are partners with the park service), by Seaplane, or by private boat. The Yankee Freedom, cruising at 26 kts, gets you there in just under 2 1/2 hrs. Unspoiled paradise with several excellent beaches, snorkeling... More

There it is rising up from the sea as you roll up to the island. The most striking thing about this place is that it is set out in the middle of nowhere. Definitely worth the effort to get there!

This was the first National Park that cold only be accessed by boat or sea plane. The boat ride was nice but as we went through a deep channel the water was a bit rough and we felt a little sea sick. The captain warned us all before we boarded the boat. They even offered us Dramamine. We made sure... More
