It's a long journey on a school bus "shuttle" to get here, but even if you don't get to see the mountain, it's a nice stop for restrooms with running water, and trails for more exploration. The rangers there were nice and were able to...More

Built into the hillside to be as ecofriendly as possible. Documentary about the people who reach the top of Denali gives you a good understanding of what it takes (money, health, good weather, and 3 weeks!) Only about 45% of the 1500 people who are...More

Even if you don't go all the way to Kantishna, you should at least go this far. Beautiful sustainable building in a incredible setting with a great window for watching Denali. Staff draws on the window each day how much of Denali was visible and...More

The big draw here is that it is the closest visitors center to the highest peak in North America. The center is very nice, on a ridge that overlooks a stunning valley system. I think most people go to see McKinley (Denali) but are likely...More

When looking at the bus schedule and stops online while planning our trip we nearly picked tickets for a shorter ride. Figured we might get tired of such a long round trip ride and would be anxious to get out an hike earlier.....So glad we...More

we stopped here as part of bus tour. Didn't spend too much time here, but did enjoy just a little hiking and the views. The visitor center was clean & informative, and offered nice bathrooms.

You can book once you get to the Center, but it probably helps to try to do this ahead of time if you can. If you're asking whether you have to take a guided hike there, no - you can do one yourself.
