For viewing Denali (the mountain), recognize that the mountain will only be seen by 30% of people and only 10% will see it without any cloud cover. The mountain is so tall, it makes its own weather pattern, so the conditions outside don’t necessarily help...More

We took the long tour to see as much of the park as we could. You are only permitted to drive the first 15 miles by private car, which we did the first day we arrived. The views were so wonderful we decided to take...More

Certainly Park Road offers tremendous landscape views and the occasional glimpse of wildlife, but it is a two way trip on the same path. So, in my opinion half of the time is somewhat wasted by retracing the same route. We did see some caribou...More

Unfortunately it rained hard so the wildlife disappeared. We only saw caribou in 2 different locations. Expect rain in Alaska.

We took the Tundra Wilderness Tour, which goes to mile 63. The trip was simply spectacular, with plentiful grizzly sightings (we saw eight in total), and this wonderful realization that you are literally in a unfathomably vast wilderness. Once in a lifetime experience.

Yes. It'll be about 4 hours one way but there are rest stops during the way. Pack more food than you think and bring water.
